American Spectator ^ | 2/13/07

Posted on 02/13/2007 12:34:44 PM PST by zarf

Theodore Olson, the stalwart conservative lawyer and former solicitor general for the Bush administration, told the Spectator he will be supporting Rudy Giuliani's presidential bid.

"I admire his character, his capacity for leadership, his instincts, and his principles," Olson said over the phone this afternoon. He said he will help Giuliani raise money as well as offer advice on legal issues and domestic policy matters that involve constitutional questions.

The President is not in charge of the national sex life.

it's that many of us actually believed this was a forum for conservatives. Some of us gave money in that belief. It's very disheartening.

Yes, I understand what you mean. It is disheartening. Try reading this:

It cheered me up quite a bit.

I don't think it is hysterics to find fault with Rudy. I like the fact that he told the Arabs to shove their money after 911. I think his record is a better indicator of future policies than just what he is saying now. I will support a true conservative in the primary. If Rudy wins the primary, I would support him over Hillary.

Many still do, many of them are and always will be conservatives, who aren't wrapped up in their own self-righteous indignation and childish accusations all the time.

History is certainly on my side when it comes to the candidates currently sitting in the House minority.

There's also plenty of history to show that someone who is not as well known or as high in the polls can end up winning the Presidency. Reagan comes to mind.

LOL! They way they talk you would think he was for picking Rudy. But we all know that Reagan was a damn good president and saw in Rudy what they will never see - he is a good man to have on your team! Reagan was a great president and did not pick Rudy just for the heck of it.

"On the other side, the Rudy boot-lickers who think he's the Second Coming of Jesus Christ." Where are these? Most folks just refuse to join the Hate Rudy Brigade. Almost all indicate that he is not in agreement with all their beliefs but understand that politics requires compromise at times.

Almost EVERY supporter of Guiliani has said they would support whoever wins the nomination. This is in sharp contrast to those Rudy Haters who adamently refuse to support the Party's nominee if it isn't someone no one has ever heard of or who has NO chance of winning the election.

Pure desperation and fear on this thread from the Rudy bashers. Expect to see vultures circling overhead.

Whomever is strong enough to impose their will. Society belongs to those of boldness of vision, not the meek who fret and plead. Liberals are winning the culture war because they are not afraid to be hypocrites.

What I want is a strongman who stands for the nation, not internationalism. I believe Rudy is such a figure. Western civilization is on its way out, at least in the utopian form imagined by the founding fathers--incidentally, a form they never practiced. The mistake of America is believing too strongly in our own founding myths--in equality and liberty. They started to be actively pursued in earnest in the 60s, and look how things have gone since then.

Societies are built on lies. They function when they treat them as lies, and totter when they treat them as truth.

I think the "real conservatives" won't be happy until the Republican Party is a permanent minority that can only win the states with lots of evangelicals (deep south) and maybe a few states in the plains and mountain west.

I think the "closet liberals" won't be happy until they've made the republican party a permanent minority that can only get votes from people who only care about their own livelihood and safety

The President of these United States of America has the last say in any Federal bill that is passed in this country. So if we have a Pro-Gay/Anti-2nd amendment/Pro-Illegal Congress/Senate and they pass one of those type of laws(even by a slim majority), if the President is Pro-Life/Pro-2nd Amendment/Anti-Illegals, that bill has zero hope of passing.

Care to take a guess as to what would happen if the President agreed with Congress/The Senate? Might want to brush up on your Politics.

Can you then explain why you've supported on this forum that candidates need to return to true conservatism while clearly Rudy isn't?

"Candidates need to return to true conservatism" is not my language. How boring.

You think? Not sure? Hillary is a poll driven candidate, just like that repugnant husband of hers. That tells me all I need to know about Hillary. We'll never win the WOT with a poll driven candidate.

There's also plenty of history to show that someone who is not as well known or as high in the polls can end up winning the Presidency. Reagan comes to mind.

Reagan had been a two-term governor of one the most populous states in the country, and had already run for President four years earlier. Plus, he'd starred in movies.

Duncan Hunter is largely unknown outside his District, Washington DC, and this forum. They're not comparable in any meaningful sense.

It's amazing to see this level of hateful spew, name calling and sliming of candidates (extending to anyone endorsing them).

Your channeling of Barbara Olson is as disgusting as John Edwards channeling dead babies.

The absolutely most amazing thing is to read the tag lines of the most offensive posters.

It doesn't lend credit to your message.
