Theodore Olson, the stalwart conservative lawyer and former solicitor general for the Bush administration, told the Spectator he will be supporting Rudy Giuliani's presidential bid.
"I admire his character, his capacity for leadership, his instincts, and his principles," Olson said over the phone this afternoon. He said he will help Giuliani raise money as well as offer advice on legal issues and domestic policy matters that involve constitutional questions.

You and those in your fold just recently went on a big tirade about the need to return to core conservatism after the November election. In this thread are easily found examples where Rudy has expressed opinions and has taken action that are a 180 from what was being forwarded from those in your camp just a mere 4 months ago. The Rudy positions would have been show fodder complete with parodies for endless weeks if they were advanced by McCain, Mitt or even Newt. Think of what a democrat would have had to live through. All while taking the same positions.
I find Rudy appealing because he is a moderate. While I don't agree with everything he has done or said, I can easily support him. But when the talk was a return to strict conservatism and now there is defense of a left of moderate candidate, I must shake my head in amazement.
What will the FR staunch conservatives do when Rudy stands triumphant after the primaries and all the "true" GOPers endorse him? Will there be anyone left in the party who isn't a sellout?

What is offensive is people that support baby killers and advocate giving homosexuals special rights. Theodore, is OFFENSIVE. His deceased wife, Barbara was NO LIBERAL supporter. I doubt very much that Barbara Olsen would support a baby killer and a homosexual advocate.

There is definitely a lot to like about Rudy. I hold him in high regard, even though I may not agree with all of his positions.
If he is the R candidate, and we're still a long way off from that final, I will vote for him, especially since I feel a Hillary!/Obamalama candidacy coming on.
I'm inclined to agree, but the methods some are using are not going to solve any issues.

I think you must be confusing me with someone else. I don't have a "fold" - I am an individual with individual views. I am a total Rudy fan, and have never said anything different.

I'm a redneck myself, and I'm STILL offended by that particular name-calling. Besides, if the "real conservatives" cannot look at the November, 2006, elections and see that we did not apparently have enough "real conservatives" to win that one, how do they expect to work a miracle in 2008 with a relative unknown? I'm just askin'....
I blame the near break-up on folks that think conservatism is all about a few cultural and religious issues. I think the founders of conservatism, who largely came from the northeast and the west (Buckley, Goldwater, etc) would disagree with that. Political conservatism to me is about: 1) Economic growth (taxes, trade, etc) 2) Limited Government (balanced budget, cut spending) 3) Strong defense (peace thru superior firepower) 4) Federalism and constitutionalism (conservative judges, 2nd Amdt, etc)
Perhaps it wasn't the right choice of words. I was using a "what's good for the goose..." approach.
The conservative movement is already on its last legs. The GOP can either be ideologues or pragmatists. I chose pragmatism.
Law and order are to me the most important things in society. I don't care if that makes me liberal or conservative. I want the party that can best accomplish these goals. Now, at this moment, that is the Republicans. Especially so under Rudy. I doubt it will always be the case, especially if things continue to unravel for the GOP.
