More hard cold evidence against the mullahs. How will the Democrats explain away this one?

Within 45 days of the first HS50 Steyr Mannlicher rifles arriving in Iran, an American officer in an armoured vehicle was shot dead by an Iraqi insurgent using the weapon.

We need some payback.

This is ZERO TOLERANCE STUFF. The evidence is mounting........but the libbies want to study ALL of the information because they were misled by the whole world of intelligence about WMD.

My prediction - if GW doesn't take action before he leaves office, we will do nothing regarding Iran. The Congress has no guts - and we do still have our hands full with Iraq.

Much as I dislike the Iranian regime, I still have to remember that the U.S. aided Iraq in the war against Iran just as we helped the Mujahadeen drive the Russians from Afghanistan.
This isn't anything new, it's just having an ill-fitting shoe forced onto the other foot.

We could have put Iran in its place when peanut Jimmah was in office. Now it has festered and the virus of islamic revolution has spread everywhere. This is an alliance with the enemies of America like Russia and China, and France......etc. Those countries are doing everything to assist Iran.

The goal is take out America. Then they will have to fight it out later.

It is happening to us, and we can do something about it. We can sink their navy, shoot down their aircraft, blow up thier factories, and make life miserable for them.

At the very least, I would love for our stealth F-22 Raptor pilots to get a chance at plausibly deniable target practive on some Iranian warbirds.

So the insurgents don't have an odd one here or there...they have 100+ out of 800. That pretty much screams official support.

Yeah, but we are the good guys. Once you lose that perspective....

We helped saddam against a more dangerous enemy at the time. Like helping the russians and chinese communists against Germany and Japan. Enemy of my enemy? Get it?

Well Jorge was already Double mad, now he's really going to do something, I'd say he'll be Triple mad, but that about it. If he was serious Sader would be fertilizer already.

We cause a revolution and the start of democracy in Iran... really get the revolution going killing theocrats and all that.... then the democracy can take over Iraq...... that is the key.

How will Bush explain this? The buck stops at his desk, not the Democrats.

Over the last six months American forces have found small caches of the £10,000 rifles but in the last 24 hours a raid in Baghdad brought the total to more than 100, US defence sources reported.

Yes, well they kind of engage in an act of war against us, but I know I'm not telling you anything you don't know.

The Administration is laying the foundation for Iran infinitely better than it did for Iraq....

Oh I know we're the 'good guys' but the Russians knew they were too and so did the Iranians when they fought Saddam.
It's a rare war that has real 'ggod guys.' Most often both sides see themselves as fighting on God's side. It isn't until the festivities are over and the history books are written that ordinary people find out who was in the right.

Austrians sold 800 sniper rifles to Iran; U.S. protests

Such a rush to dhimmitude in Europe! Astonishing. From AP, with thanks to Jeffrey Imm:

VIENNA, Austria -- Iran has contracted to buy hundreds of high-powered rifles from an Austrian firm, the company's owner said Wednesday. The sale drew an indirect rebuke from the United States, but Austrian government ministries said no laws were broken.

Wolfgang Fuerlinger, head of Steyr Mannlicher GmbH, confirmed the deal between his company and Iranian authorities and said U.S. Embassy officials had expressed concerns the arms could make their way to Iraq for use against American troops.

He said he could not confirm Austrian media reports that part of the order -- 800 long-range semiautomatic rifles that can penetrate thick metal, along with high-tech snipers' scopes -- was flown to Iran last month.

The United States has strict embargoes in place against Iran on sales of weapons or technology or materials that could be used to make weapons..

Thanks for the post FreeLanta.

This is an outrage.

Here's a question to legally and diplomaticly astute freepers:
with our recent gun control legislation, is there some jurisdiction within the country where a civil suit could be successfully entered against this Austrian company?

I am totally ignorant in this area, and I doubt it hasn't been thought of before--considered, factored, and decided in some larger diplomatic context. I have to admit though, I'd enjoy seeing our enemy's policies (the 'slammies' and their Dimo alies') turned on them.
