Salt Lake Police say a man opened fire inside the Trolley Square Mall on Monday evening. Police have shot and killed one suspect, and there are preliminary reports that at least five people are dead. There is no second shooter loose inside the mall.
Police report that the shooter was shooting at random in mulitiple areas, but is no longer a threat and there is no further risk at Trolley Square.
Police say that there have been "several" vicitms and "some" fatalities and "some" in critical condition, but could not report further. All victims have been transported to several hospitals in the area.
Multiple police and ambulance vehicles surround the area and initial reports say the mall is in lock down. Most people have been evacuated but some may still be locked in stores. Police could not confirm how many, if any, remained in the mall.

Utah has a CCW law. The University of Utah is trying to circumvent the law by forbidding weapons to be carried on their campus. Their rules have been knocked down by the Supreme Court as violating the 2nd amendment.
What do you recomend, a candle light vigil sing along, wailing and crying into the media camera's for gun control, and of course, grief counceling for the entire community because they just never believed this could happen in their town?
The popcorn is for a liberal media frenzy that usually occurs after something like this, knee jerk reactions from liberal politicians using the opportunity to take a few more of your liberties away.
Salt Lake is as liberal of a town as it can be. It is referred to a Little Frisco. It has a Mayor that is as far left as he can be too.
Philly shooting reportedly took place at some sort of "Board meeting" at the Navy Yard (now a shipbuilding center) - shooter was supposedly upset because he thought he was being bilked out of "a half million dollars" by those at the meeting, according to NBC channel 10 - the slaughter in Democrat-controlled Philly goes on.......
You might say you were a salted!!!
how old are you.
Yes, concealed carry is allowed in Utah. But Salt Lake City is very liberal. Trolley Square is just a few blocks southwest of the the University of Utah, near some of the most liberal enclaves of the entire state outside of Park City. You're not likely find very many people carrying concealed weapons in or near Trolley Square.
You need help-
It was probably one of those fully automatic assault shotguns.
The name McKeown sounded familier from a mall shooting near Seattle last year. But a search dound a different/similar name. But - thought I'd post snippets in how things can turn out when someone has a firearm and is willing to fight back. (Although as the hero stated at the time of the shooting "I guess I wasn't quick enough on the draw".)
Actually, the shooter was killed by an off duty police officer before SWAT or just as SWAT arrived. HUGE kudos to this man!! Three cheers for private citizens who care enough to conceal carry!!!!! (the Utah shooting is what I am referring to)
***the slaughter in Democrat-controlled Philly goes on.......***
Didn't the Mayor of Phily say the cause of their murder rate was the war in Iraq?
No, this town of liberal cowards who went running the other way needs help.
Had there been a few people carrying, this nut wouldn't have shot so many people.
And I suspect, so do you. Whine-o
Going out and buying a gun while you still can might be a better response.
You suspect me what :)Whine-o---Good:)heehhee.
Yep! I never go to Jefferson, St Matthews, or Oxmore Malls in Louisville or the local Towne Mall without carrying.
My condolences go out the the families. I think you read a little too much into my comment, it was not meant as a put down or making fun of the sadness of this event. "Get the popcorn" is a saying that long-time Freepers use when starting a thread that is likely to generate a lot of responses. As in "this is going to be a long night".
I'm sorry that my comment hit a nerve. It was not my intention.
I understand(((Hugs))) It was local for me.Hate to turn on the news sometimes.
I drove right past the Trolley Square Mall in Salt Lake a few hours before it all happened. With that said, I would have like to have heard someone say, "Gee, I wish I had had a concealed weapon so I could have done something about it". I'm so sick of hearing the MSM mantra of "Ban the guns! For the children!"
