A total of 14,034 people, roughly half of them children, were denied or lost health insurance through state health programs last year because of a new federal law that requires proof of citizenship and identity.

Those figures, based on state data, are in a recent report by the Wisconsin Council on Children and Families. But just what they signify is open to interpretation.
To opponents of the law, the figures show that U.S. citizens, not illegal immigrants, have been hurt.

A variation on the "terrorists are a bigger threat" argument for amnesty/comprehensive immigration reform:
"do it for the children".
With this line of thinking anyone can change the law just by wanting to. So I think I will change the law for myself and not pay taxes.
Effing ridiculous. I have to have ID for just about everything, except for voting democrat and getting welfare apparently.

This is the first year that the new standard is in effect so compliance will be lower. Soon everyone will bring the right papers to enroll.
I see they never say the amount of money saved buy asking for proof of citizenship. What is the savings of having thousands of non citizens off the roles?
They are clear that almost any kind of paperwork will be accepted so many non citizens are still enrolled.
It's called a birth certificate, or a consular report of birth abroad.
How much would it cost a parent to get his child a birth certificate and a passport. They would get back the cost first visit to the Doctor office.

I can't imagine a citizen that is unable or unwilling to expend the small effort necessary to prove citizenship.
I've had to do it not once, not twice, but three times; before and after 911.
We also need to stop giving birth certificates to the children of illegals. They are not citizens per the 14th Amendment.
