Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama said Sunday he does not think voters have a litmus test on religion, whether evangelical Christianity or his childhood years in a largely Muslim country.
"If your name is Barack Hussein Obama, you can expect it, some of that. I think the majority of voters know that I'm a member of the United Church of Christ, and that I take my faith seriously," Obama said in an interview with The Associated Press.
"Ultimately what I think voters will be looking for is not so much a litmus test on faith as an assurance that a candidate has a value system and that is appreciative of the role that religious faith can play in helping shape people's lives," he said.
In the interview, Obama also said his race might be a "novelty" this early in the presidential contest, sparred with the prime minister of Australia over Iraq, and said he has a higher burden of proof with voters because of his relative inexperience. Obama formally announced his candidacy in Illinois on Saturday and made a beeline for Iowa, site of the first nominating contest next Jan. 14.

This guy is going to go far.
Concerned was my word, but suspicious works.
Suspicious works for me.
There's stuff on this United Church of Christ somewhere in "Search" from a few weeks back. It's Black Separatist it seems.
Relative? Relative?? Absolute! is a bit more descriptive.
I think the majority of voters know that I'm a member of the United Church of Christ, and that I take my faith seriously...
There may be some strident muslims that take faith VERY seriously... especially the part about once a muslim, always one. Or else.
TRANSLATION:"I am not really one of those Christians who really BELIEVE all this stuff about the Bible and Jesus, so I'll just straddle the fence with my answer."
Left.....

United Church of Christ is not a religious institution that ANYBODY could take seriously.
The guy is a crypto-Muslim. And if he does not hew to the Islamic line, he would be finding himself under a fatwa, should he ever get into a position of real power.
Who will have ownership of his gonads? Because he sure has surrendered up title on them.
Exactly
yes he is the manchurian candidate
I retrieved the following from Wikipedia on "United Church of Christ""
According to John Evans, associate professor of sociology at University of California, San Diego, "The UCC is clearly going after a certain niche in American society who are very liberal and have a particular religious vision that includes inclusiveness
They are becoming the religious brand that is known for this."
In the second major commercial, known as the "Ejector Seat" commercial, church pews "eject" people in a fashion similar to aircraft ejector seats; among the persons "ejected" from the church are an African American mother holding a crying infant, two men holding hands, an Arab-American man, and a person with a walker. The commercial again concluded with the line "Jesus didn't turn people away. Neither do we", and cut to a scene of a diverse church gathering and a voice-over stating "The United Church of Christ: No matter who you are, or where you are on life's journey, you're welcome here."
The resolution "In support of equal marriage rights for all", supported by an estimated 80% of the 884 General Synod Delegates, made the United Church of Christ General Synod the first major Christian deliberative body in the U.S. to make a statement of support for equal marriage rights for all people, regardless of gender, and is hitherto the largest Christian denominational entity in the U.S. supporting equal marriage rights.
He's already setting it up:
"I'm a Christian, and Christians can support gay marriage."
I'm not curious about his gravitas because he hasn't any!

Muslim author to discuss with Tavis Smiley new book on Islam for Christians

The Pilgrim Press, U.S. distributor of Canadian publisher CopperHouse, has announced that Amir Hussain, a Pakistani-born Canadian Muslim and author of CopperHouses timely release, Oil & Water: Two Faiths, One God a book to help Christians understand Islam -- will appear Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2006, on PBS Tavis Smiley Late Night on PBS. (Check local PBS schedule for air time.)
Hussains interview with Smiley begins with comments on the books subtitle, Two Faiths, One God, and with the issue of exclusivity versus inclusivity and the notion that if we are all children of one God, then we worship the same God.
American Muslim identity and such famous African-American Muslims as Muhammad Ali and Dave Chapelle also are discussed. If you saw them walking down the street, says Hussain, you wouldn't think terrorist and be afraid; you'd probably ask for their autograph.
The subject of conversion to Islam also is covered, along with the reality that, for many converts, it is Islams emphasis on social justice that leads to their conversion. A conversation about the ways in which the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.s life and work continues to serve as an inspiration for people to work together helps focus the social justice discussion. Hussain also mentions Muslim Farid Esack, who worked to help end apartheid in South Africa and now works with Positive Muslims, an organization for Muslims living with HIV/AIDS.

...and the masses are crying Hosanna Obama! (I was just reading BBC comments from lefties around the world and I swear they are ready to swear allegiance to the almighty Obama)
And I'm still trying to find it under my 100,000X electron microscope.
