From Wikipedia:

Atlas Shrugged is a film in active development by Baldwin Entertainment Group and Lions Gate Entertainment. Based on Ayn Rand’s 1957 novel, a two-part draft screenplay written by James V. Hart is now being fully developed by writer-director Randall Wallace.

Angelina Jolie has been confirmed to play the role of Dagny Taggart, and Brad Pitt is rumored to be cast as John Galt. Both are fans of Rand's works. It is projected that Atlas Shrugged will be released as a trilogy, with staggered release-dates for each of the three films. Lions Gate Entertainment has picked up worldwide distribution rights. The first film is expected to be released in 2008. [1]

"Brad Pitt is rumored to be cast as John Galt"

Finally, we know.

Who is John Galt?

Brad Pitt!

Bird-brains Jolie and Brad will turn this into a farce.

Both are fans of Rand's works.

That seems unlikely, given Jolie's one-time "U.N. Goodwill Ambassador" status, which conflicts with Randian philosophy on a number of levels.

Wow. Jolie and Pitt just went up a few notches in my book.

How is it that idiots like these two are followers of Ayn Rand? They are both big-government socialists (while simultaneously being rabid capitalists and voracious consumerists and shooting movies in places like Toronto or Australia to avoid paying Teamster wages or high taxes like in Los Angeles).

A trilogy makes sense, if they can sell it.

Actually, as much as I disagree with their politics and find both actors repulsive (well, one is easier on the eyes than the other) I think that Jolie and Pitt are good choices to play the roles based upon what I've seen of them in other films. I believe Jolie is an excellent choice and Pitt is a pretty good one too. Now, let's cross our fingers and hope that they don't mess up the message of the book and turn it into some liberal tripe.
