Giuliani: Gun control helped lower crime

Rudy Giuliani addressed a potentially troublesome issue with conservative voters, saying his policies as mayor to get handguns off the street helped reduce crime in New York.

"I used gun control as mayor," he said at a news conference Saturday during a swing through California. But "I understand the Second Amendment. I understand the right to bear arms."

He said what he did as mayor would have no effect on hunting.

Addressing another potential trouble spot with conservatives, Giuliani spoke in favor of a border fence, saying, "You have to have secure borders, you have to have a fence, and the fence I think has to be a highly technological one."

The nation needs to know, he said, who is coming into the country and why. But he provided scant details on how he would deal with illegal immigrants already in the country. Citizens, he added, should be able to read and write English.

Giuliani was to make an address Monday in Silicon Valley and he was to appear Tuesday at an agricultural fair in the Central Valley.

Asked when he would make a formal announcement that he is a candidate for the Republican nomination, Giuliani said: "Well, formally announce? I don't know."

Light years more conservative than Hillary? Really? Name more than one issue...

The WOT...if you want to make that a conservative issue (shouldn't be- it should be an American issue)...

What else?

Rudy is Pro- Abortion - as Hitlery is
Rudy is Pro-Gun control - as Hitlery is
Rudy is Pro-illlega - as Hitlery is
Rudy is Pro-amnesty - as Hitlery is
Rudy likes to spend tax money - as Hitlery does
Rudy is pro-homosexual - as Hitlery is
Rudy is pro-North American Union - as Hitlery is

Do I need to go on? Where is he so much better than Hitlery????

That has been the historical trend. Republican presidents become more conservative at 1600 Penn Ave while Democrats become more liberal after taking up residence in the WH.

Is that so? Then explain GW Bush - who has progressively grown more liberal in office...

I am not quite sure I follow you, but you are correct on one point. There is a considerable amount of head-butting going on in the GOP between the United States Chamber of Commerce and the Social Conservatives. The USCC has the cash, but the votes still lie with the people. Again, failure to energize the base will doom the GOP. I thought they learned their lesson in 06, guess not. Me thinks we are headed for Madam Hillary because the GOP has a serious case of "Cranium up the Rectus".

Just a note; the far left is not happy with Hitllary and the Right is not happy with Rudy. The 08 Presidential elections will be won or lost in the primaries.

Second Amendment rights are my litmus test and Guiliani failed. No vote for Guiliani. Period.

Explicate "shall not be infringed" Rudi.

He may in fact be a gun grabber, but you can't trust the MSM, and line about hunting is not in quotes.

If its between him and hillary, Im going third party.

First, it won't be Hillary. I doubt she'll win 3 primaries. Maybe one or two. Second, when the time comes, you'll vote for the GOPer, or you'll help the DEMs. Sorry, it's an A/B situation. If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice.

Hey Rudy, using the death penalty and I repeat using the death penalty, has a definite impact on crime. You don't have repeat offenders that you have to support for the rest of their life. Try it before you come after our guns and remember the Second Amendment isn't about duck hunting.

"Once in office practical politics will move Giuliani to the right. While Giuliani may not be conservative enough for some, he is light years more conservative than Hillary."

Can't you say the same about hillary, or anyone else for that matter?

"Rudy Giuliani addressed a potentially troublesome issue with conservative voters, saying his policies as mayor to get handguns off the street helped reduce crime in New York."

Begs the question, as President, what other cities would he target to help "reduce crime," by taking away the citizen's right to keep and bear arms?

"Freedom is about authority. Freedom is about the willingness of every single human being to cede to lawful authority a great deal of discretion about what you do and how you do it."

Not to stoke the flames higher, but how is this different than what we have now? As soon as you set foot off your property, you're subject to a myriad of ever-expanding laws, many of which are subject to interpretation or revocation at the whim of politicians. To the CCW folks on this thread (other than those from Alaska) - how many hoops did you need to jump through (classes, forms, etc) to get your permits? And your handguns?

And heck, with the expansion of Eminent Domain laws, your own property isn't even safe.

Guiliani is not my ideal candidate, but I'd choose him over any Dem that I've seen so far, and over a lot of Republicans. (McCain? Please.)

He said what he did as mayor would have no effect on hunting.

The fact that he thinks hunting is the principal concern of a 2nd Amendment rights advocate is quite telling.

He said what he did as mayor would have no effect on hunting.

"He may in fact be a gun grabber, but you can't trust the MSM, and line about hunting is not in quotes".

I don't know if he said, in fact, the line about his support and use of Draconian gun control in nyc having "no effect on hunting".

But...

Given his anti-gun/Anti-2A track record (which is indisputable), AND his use of OTHER talking points from the gun-grabbing crowd's playbook, like "reasonable" and "sensible", it's not much of a stretch to think he'd likely use the 2A is ONLY about hunting line.

I'm waiting for him to complete the quote and, like his gun-grabbing demonRAT friends (in the left-wing press, fellow anti-gun fanatics like schumer and mccarthy, and his butt-buddies in the various anti-gun, anti-2A, anti-freedom, anti-AMERICAN gun-control-pushing organizations like the brady bunch, etc.), say that "No one needs an UZI or an AK-47 to HUNT DUCKS".

It's coming, I'm sure. It's just a matter of time.

Unless, of course, RINO-rudy's handlers tell him to STFU on the 2nd Amendment and gun-control!
