If you lived in NYC, you'd know that this approach would not work here. It's fine in most other places - go ahead and use it. But in an urban environment built around public transportation, with almost zero "personal space" while interacting with fellow citizens, having everyone armed just won't work.

What other Constitutional rights should New York City residents have taken away? What amendments should apply to urban dwellers?

Texas shouldn't be forced to have NYC's gun laws.

NYC shouldn't have NYCs gun laws either.

The RKBA is just important in NYC as it is any place else, unless you go along with Rudy's theory that it's about duck hunting. Probably not very much duck hunting in NYC.

He's a gun grabbing liberal.

He said what he did as mayor would have no effect on hunting.

What does hunting have to do with the 2nd Amendment, Rudy?

By his own admission, he infringed on the right that is not suppossed to be infrimged for the sake of an anti-crime tactic? By that logic why not suspend the 4th, 5th, and 6th amendments?

(Obviously, for example, a 9 year old boy shouldn't run around with a loaded gun. But should any adult be free to hold a gun in Time Square?)

I was given my first .22 at age 6. At age 9 I WAS "running around with a loaded gun", in appropriate places, shooting appropriate targets.

At 12, I was given my first deer rifle; and already had a 12 gage shotgun...single shot, manual cock, but a shotgun, never the less.

Before finishing 7th grade, I had bought my first revolver, and wore it open-carry quite often.

And who was it that wounded two, one seriously; and put over 100 bullet holes in three businesses, but never hit the perp less than 50' away, at whom he was supposedly shooting? OUR LOCAL DEPUTY SHERIFF, with a full-auto AR he wasn't even authorized to be carrying.

why is that? where were all the armed honest citizens of Houston to thwart the crimes being committed by them?

you can reduce crime in an urban environment, without resorting to a plan that basically tells citizens "we can't do anything abour preventing crime through law enforcement, go get yourself a gun and carry it". all these threads regarding Rudy and guns, you have to look at them in the context of what he was trying to do as mayor of NYC.

In a society where it is illegal for honest citizens to own guns, then controlling the guns of criminals can reduce crime.

Controlling guns is as useless in controlling crime, as "controlling" criminals has proven to be.

Too bad the 2nd Amendment was not SPECIFICALLY to huting alone. Gulianni needs to be schooled on this.

"I used gun control as mayor," he said at a news conference Saturday during a swing through California. But "I understand the Second Amendment. I understand the right to bear arms."

He said what he did as mayor would have no effect on hunting.

Oyvey.

Not really, the way to look at statements by Rudy is in the context of the United States Constitution. When he says he will appoint strict constructionists one can only assume that Rud's type of strict constructionist thinks the RTKABA applies to hunting. Same for abortion. Same crap about his supporting a "high tech" fence which is no fence at all.

Rudy is every bit as smart as Clinton was and every bit as duplicitous from what I've been reading.

That argument is so wrong on so many levels. Effective law enforecement is great, but the most efficient operations will never prevent all crimes, so why would they take away the enumerated right of people to fend for themselves when the LEO's are not present right then and there? Even if it could be shown that less guns means less crime, and the evidence seems to be contrary to this, it still is a violation of liberties to enact these anti-gun measures.

If it could be shown that 95% of deaths from car accidents would be saved if the speed limit was 10 MPH, would we want that? And driving a car at any speed is not even an enumerated right. Violating the BOR's is itself a crime.

Well, at least we are beginning to understand some FReepers' support for Giuliani. It is out of a basic agreement with his positions. Which is very sad.

No effect on hunting...

Until all hunting with firearms is banned.
