You are lucky there was not more damage. I had one of those break and one half of it came loose and ricochet around the garage with considerable force. Luckily no car was inside at the time. I then learned that a "modern" installation has a safety cable strung down the middle of the spring to contain any such breaks.

Man the stuff I am learning about garage doors that I just never knew.
You're right though. I am lucky cause that is one BIG spring that broke. For all the damned noise, it appears that no damage was done.
