What was "historic" about it? Wasn't Shirley Chisholm the first African American Democrat Presidential candidate?
That was in 1972, over 30 years ago.
Yes, but even though she was undoubtedly clean, she had a speech impediment, therefore she could not have been classified as articulate and therefore didn't count. That's the bar that's been set by the smartest man in the Senate, Joe Biden, that allows all lefties to now acknowledge Obama as a "first."
Side note - I actually was on a flight with Shirley Chisholm when she was in Congress. We sat near each other at the back of an old 727. We talked for a bit during the flight (I was a high school kid from New York and she was in her second term) and I had the innocence to comment on the irony of her sitting in the back of the plane. She had the good graces to laugh and not take offense. She said that she liked the back as she could always find a place for her carry on in the overhead while the front overheads were always full. I've always booked seats in the back of the plane for that reason since then.
You do not think that Tim will let facts get in the way of what he wants to say do you?
Wasn't Shirley Chisholm the first African American Democrat Presidential candidate?
Bravo, good memory.
It is historic because Obama is the first 'articulate and CLEAN african american presidential candidate (per Chris Dodd)
Jesse Jackson ran for President and I believe he actual won at least one primary.
