Your comments and those of others have convinced me to do something I almost never do, and that's Tivo the later incarnations of FNS and MTP.

Usually I realize how pointless that would be after reading this thread.

I suspect everything you are saying is correct, but when elections happen such as in 01 why weren't the Clintonistas thrown out of as many govt. jobs or "transferred" to places where they can do no harm since I know it is hard to fire dead wood.
If Hillary gets in we already have a track record of how she hires and fires and makes changes, it's scary as hell too.

The major concern is that of the 50+1 Dems in the Senate now, 38+1 of them will still be there in 2009. Only 12 are up for election, and only Tim Johnson and Mary Landrieu are seriously in the toss-up column. Whereas attrition on the side of Republicans make the situation in Congress even more dire.

As to your assessment ---

Alexander, Lamar- (R - TN) --- My senator - good enough for me to work for him ````````Check
Allard, Wayne- (R - CO) --- Don't know him````````neither do I
Chambliss, Saxby- (R - GA) --- Don't know him but vague impression of good, am I off base? `````````Strong southern Conservative
Cochran, Thad- (R - MS) --- Good ````````Check
Coleman, Norm- (R - MN) --- Good… sometimes, squirelly others```````Iffy, Dem roots showing
Collins, Susan M.- (R - ME) --- Ugly````````Check
Cornyn, John- (R - TX) --- Very Good`````````Check
Craig, Larry E.- (R - ID) --- Don't know him```````Ditto
Dole, Elizabeth- (R - NC) --- Not good enough, but what's the alternative, Edwards?`````````Check
Domenici, Pete V.- (R - NM) --- Good````````Check
Enzi, Michael B.- (R - WY) --- Don't know him```````Check
Graham, Lindsey- (R - SC) --- Sock puppet, we've got to find an alternative for the primary``````Check
Hagel, Chuck- (R - NE) --- Pure evil````````Check
Inhofe, James M.- (R - OK) --- Very Good```````Check
McConnell, Mitch- (R - KY) --- Very Very Good```````Check
Roberts, Pat- (R - KS) --- Sometimes good, sometimes not, but on balance OK````````Good
Sessions, Jeff- (R - AL) --- Good```````Very Good
Smith, Gordon H.- (R - OR) --- Bad````````Check
Stevens, Ted- (R - AK) --- Good````````Old and tired
Sununu, John E.- (R - NH) --- Good``````````John Who? What has he done except get elected. All (R) candidates in New England are very vulnerable
Warner, John- (R - VA) --- Sometimes good, sometimes not, but on balance OK, need new blood```````Old and tired, and not willing to stand on principle for the voters of a state that is becoming more under to control of migrants from the Boston to DC corridor, instead of conservative southerners.

Only 12 of 21 are in the good category. If the dems go after our best like they did Santorum, Allen, Curt Weldon, and we lose some of the not so good in this list, we could end up with a senate that has no Republican power at all. I wish we did not have to even think of these things two whole years ahead of the election, but we know the dems are already getting their game plan in order.

Murtha should be sitting in a recliner at a nursing home, where the aides would hurry by him for fear that he would trap them into listening to his ramblings.

You question is a good one and I can't answer the question you asked, with the two options you provided. What I will say, is that Howie works for WAPO and CNN, therefore, I consider him a liberal lefty liar.

Where's McCain? Where's Biden? ... The Universe is out of balance.
Venkman: This city is headed for a disaster of biblical proportions.
Mayor: What do you mean, biblical?
Ray: What he means is Old Testament, Mr. Mayor... real Wrath-of-God-type stuff. Fire and brimstone coming down from the skies.
Venkman: Rivers and seas boiling!
Egon: 40 years of darkness, earthquakes, volcanos.
Winston:The dead rising from the grave!
Venkman: Human sacrifice, dogs and cats, living together... mass hysteria!

I'm interested in Cornyn. I think he'll make a good candidate some day and maybe sooner if he were not a Texan.

So, which is it? Did he say that Howard should stay out of our business as was earlier reported by someone? Or did he say what you said, that Australia is our biggest Ally and that Howard has a right to an opinion on a possible future US President?

I hope your post is right as I was concerned after the earlier post ... it just didn't sound like something he would say.

That is an excellent point. When you have a choice between these hundred Atheistic, anti American, Anti Military, Pro illegal, Pro Terrorist, cut and runners, and these other hundred of the same what do you do? Well you pick the ones that are least likely to show their ample butts to the squishy middle before the 2008 election. They are already half cheeked gone and on the way to the entire butt. Yikes.......The Poor unsuspecting Public. I wonder if we should try to warn them, Ya Think?

My post was right. Cornyn defended Howard. It was the Dem, natch, who thought Howard should shut up.

They never had any intention of cleaning up their dirty guys because a lot of them are their leaders, and they are not going to take each other down. They all have skeletons and People that they stepped on along the way up the leadership ladder. There are too many people that can spill the beans on too many others, especially when they all probably have the DC DBM phones on speed dial.Rat Squealers about other rats, that would be lovely.

Cornyn (one of my Senators) said he prefers Howard to stay out of our politics and we'll stay out of theirs, but he went on to say something favorable to the point Howard was making about Iraq.

The one who was most supportive of Howard saying what he did was Duncan Hunter.

I volunteered to serve as an MCT Ambassador this year at TEch ED, so I'll get the pretty shirt but be busier. It does get me in for free but I've got to work. As a consolation, the parties are much, much better!

See you there! I'm going to bring the wife and kiddies who will go visit the touristy stuff while I work.
