Thanks. "We were soldiers..." was a great movie. My wife's in love with Sam Elliott.
My wife and daughter watch and re-watch the movie. It has Mel and Sam in it! Of course I don't mind cause it is a helluva story about real men.
Arlene and Bruce Crandall.
Major Bruce P. Crandall "Snake" was assigned as Commanding Officer of "A" Company, 229th Assault Helicopter Battalion, 1st Cavalry Division (Airmobile) in the Republic of Vietnam in 1965-66. Bruce's heroic efforts in the Ia Drang Valley are well documented in the book and film "We Were Soldiers" by Joe Galloway

Where do we ... ? bump
he passed up the medal the first time around so ed freeman, his wingman, could recieve the medal. there were also some integrity issues and red tape, but it all worked out ok in the end. i’m so glad he finally got it. my grandparents are such sweet people, it was nice for them to experience this together.
Like what? As a helo pilot watching the movie: If the flying depicted in that movie was accurate I always thought that actions of those two pilots was well deserving of that award based upon awards for similar actions by other helo bubbas from both the Army and the Corps. Nice to see that the recognition, while delayed, finally came. Based on his other displays of valor, it is long overdue. A guy like that either was or wasn't. Snake was.
