Banned by YouTube: Islamic Teachings, Cruelty From The Quran
Youtube ^ | 2/9/2007 | Nick Gisburne

Posted on 02/10/2007 11:38:57 AM PST by faq

This is a video that was banned by YouTube. It was posted on YouTube by an atheist who had previously posted lots of videos. But, when he posted a video called Islamic Teachings his video was removed and his account was deleted. The video is nothing more than quotes from the Quran set to music. I thought it was very well done. After YouTube deleted his account he made another video under a different username asking to be reinstated. If you watch that video you can tell he was hurt. Almost like he had lost a friend.

The video that got him banned, however, has since been reposted dozens and dozens of times.

Here is the video that got him banned:

Here is the video where Nick Gisburne asks for his account to be reinstated:

"> You Tube is a privately owned company
Owned by Google."

I know this and your point? Google may be a "publicly" traded company but they are privately "owned" by their share holders and therefore not a public concern.

You don’t like what Google does, sell your stock or vote your proxy or don't use their services.

I posted this for three reasons. The primarily reason is that it's a good video. Second, there really is no obvious reason to remove this video other than the left-wing pro-Islam lets hide the truth because it hurts Republicans reasons. And yes, that is not a surprise. But if we didn't point out left wing bias here, there really isn't much need to post articles from the NYT, CNN, MSNBC, etc. And if there wasn't so much rampant left wing bias in our media there wouldn't be much demand for Free Republic. I'm somewhat surprised, by the way, that we made it almost 20 posts without someone pointing out he was an atheist. Actually, I'm somewhat encouraged that someone who is an "active atheist" would take an interest in this subject. A lot of those people you see supporting him on YouTube are liberals. And the third reason is the drama. It's obvious that he was greatly affected by having his videos removed. It says something about the virtual world that we live in today.

The life of great websites keeps repeating itself. They start as relatively anonymous, featuring either a great idea, technical innovation or both. They quickly develop an underground reputation, often based on, in part, a willingness to "fight the power" and give individuals an ability to either tweak their nose at or expose the flaws and crimes of established institutions. This combination of brilliance and social rebellion rapidly pushes the site to mainstream awareness and popular appeal. If the technology or idea is novel enough the site is adapted by millions across a very broad demographic as a variety of people or groups adapt it for their own particular needs and uses.

At this point the site enters the radar of corporate America who trips over itself trying to see who can buy up the site first. Owners sell out big time to a Yahoo, Google, Microsoft, Time-Warner type or does the big time IPO (which is essentially the same thing). Site turns mainstream and represses the very thing that made it famous, all in an attempt to maintain a bland, but lucrative, stable and predictable, market share. Adapting to the (changing) least common denominator, in order to achieve the broadest swath of profitability is inevitable. The corporate mentality. I'm not knocking it because it gave me the ability to sit here and vent on the web, but you've got to admit there is a stifling effect which one must be prepared to confront in order to maintain what made life worthwhile in the first place. I'm starting to see a metaphor here.

Especially from 2:00 on.

I probably shouldn't laugh, but it's just too much.

I am watching it right now with my 12 year old son. He is stunned and sad. Maybe I shouldn't have let him see it until he was older.

Since he was supplying quotes from the Quran, is U2B saying that the Quran is too inappropriate and outrageous?

There are people talking to him about how he'd made things about the hate in the bible too but they didn't get removed.

I agree with you that they have the right to do whatever they want. I just think it's very telling they decided to get rid of his entire account over this.

Oh no, not at all! You see, by not quoting the entire passage and extending the 9 minute slideshow to 1 hour, it's taking quotes out of context. They didn't really MEAN those things the way it was said...they just meant to kill some infidels, or the ones with funny hats.

I’m no Biblical scholar but I recall that there’s a lot in there about bad stuff happening to non-believers.

Such as...?

And please don't reply with "going to hell." The Bible never says anyone goes to hell for not believing.

My point in writing you is this: you weigh in on a subject, prefacing your remarks by announcing your relative ignorance.

Don't you see something wrong there?

"Such as...?"

Leviticus 24:10-16

Bring forth him that hath cursed without the camp; and let all that heard him lay their hands upon his head, and let all the congregation stone him.

And thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel, saying, Whosoever curseth his God shall bear his sin.

And he that blasphemeth the name of the LORD, he shall surely be put to death, and all the congregation shall certainly stone him: as well the stranger, as he that is born in the land, when he blasphemeth the name of the Lord, shall be put to death.

Or

Deuteronomy 17:12 12

The man who shows contempt for the judge or for the priest who stands ministering there to the LORD your God must be put to death. You must purge the evil from Israel.

This is not a religion thread and I didn't intend to start one, and so I don't want to continue any further discusions here.

But if you'd like to continue calling me ingorant, feel free to Freepmail me.

By all means!

I'd get alot out of trying to carry on a debate with someone who cites tangentially related quotes, and turns their own admissions into passive aggressive accusations...

Don't wait by the phone.

Thanks. I was getting tired of going throught the video stopping and starting it and still not having a copy of the text.

The Slashdot story about this incident notes that the author had previously posted videos critical of Christianity without problems.

Sounds like a simple case of cowardice on the part of YouTube management.
