Why is Hoax entered as a keyword?

My guess would be in reference to global warming.

In 1888, a bit over a hundred years ago (and not coincidentally around the time we started keeping records) there was also a horrendous blizzard in the West and the Rocky Mountians that killed many people and millions of animals. I suppose that was caused by humans' global warming, too. All those cowboys driving around the Old West in their diesel pickups. . . </ s>

"Why is Hoax entered as a keyword?"

"My guess would be in reference to global warming"

And you would be correct, "raybbr"!

Don't you see? This record cold January and whats shaping up to be a record cold Febuary, and all this snow in the Northeast are because of Global Warming.

No way could all this snow be caused by cold arctic air picking up moisture as it passes over warmer water in the great lakes and lake Ontario and dumping it everywhere southeast of them.

Don't expect it to end anytime soon either, the weather man says. At least another week of sub zero temps 20 degrees below "normal".

Not only is it all Bush's fault, Gasoline should be rationed and heavily taxed today so emissions are cut drastically in time to stop the next snowfall - Tomorrow......

"Wasn't this the New York that was complaining how there was no winter this year just a few weeks ago?"

Well, they got 6 feet of snow now! Ironically, here in the northern mid west, it's cold, but there isn't much snow at all, it's too cold to snow. Frozen and dead batteries, square tires, frozen hydraulic clutches and shocks in the morning are a problem though.

Our average high for the last couple of weeks is about 5. Many nights and a few days at zero or below. We've gotten snow, on and off, for the last two weeks. Not this much, tho. But still, it has impacted our daily life. All I wanna know is this: WHERE'S MY FEMA GIFT CARD? It would have been nice to watch the Superbowl commercials on a 42" HDTV!

The blizzard of '88 is called "The Children's Blizzard" for all the school children that died...

You all need algore in town to blow some hot air. He could walk around town bloviating at the snow on the roofs and melt it off.

That would be true if indeed temperatures were "trending higher". The truth is, they are not.
They "trended higher" during the 1930's and have cooled since. All there have really been are spot weather patterns causing regional warming in some areas, while causing regional cooling in others.
This is what the "global warming" terrorists have been spotlighting for their global warming scare stories. The warmer season in France that supposedly killed off a bunch of old people (rather than poor health services) was not caused by global warming trends, it was merely a local weather anomaly.

weather patterns change constantly, they always have and always will. The only thing that has changed is our ability to see them on the evening news no matter where they occur on the earth.

"Our average high for the last couple of weeks is about 5.

5? That's like- tropical! Here, overnight lows have been as cold as -50f/c (doesn't matter at this temp it's the same) some nights, -38C last night and -24c during the day. 5 would be short sleeve shirt weather...

"Sorry - I'm gonna go with the conclusions of mainstream scientists." Those are their conclusions.Science news You mean you are going to go with the 300 (minority) of scientists paid by the UN and NGO's to promote the Kyoto scam.

Won't this winter's temps push the average down for 2007?
If we have a moderate summer (except for Miami/Brownsville/the SW desert), they will have a difficult time claiming these straight line extrapolations.

We were supposed to have a moderate winter due to El Nino. I bought extra firewood last August on the theory that we were overdue for a very cold winter. Glad I did and now I am just hoping the wood lasts til the end of March.

We live in the country and this property is in a river valley. Our temps have consistently been 10 degrees lower than those reported at airports surrounded by a lot of concrete. We have had -25 and I know of areas around here that had -30 while the Weather Channel was reporting -10 and -15. It hasn't gotten above zero in the daytime for most of the last week. Back 30 years ago, this was a normal winter and it would start in November and not let up til mid-March.Many folks have been fretting the past several years over the change and this, IMO, has made them susceptible to the anthropogenic global warming hype.

I had a guy who fancies himself an expert on all things ecological tell me last Fall that our weather had changed so drastically that we were now a USDA Zone 5. Since I have been trying to grow blue hydrangeas for years, only to have them not survive even our *mild* winters, I told him I would love being in Zone 5 and asked him when this would reliably happen. He changed the subject.

I'd say Hoax is a keyword because of global warming being a hoax.
