Tonight's Hannity and Colmes featured an interview with Col. Oliver North about the media coverage of Iraq and the William Arkin slam against our soldiers. During the course of the interview, Alan Colmes claimed that Rep. John Murtha was right when Murtha accused our Marines of killing innocent civilians in Haditha in cold blood. Col. North immediately reminded Colmes that the Marines had yet to face a trial therefore they were innocent until proven guilty. Colmes replied "there were confessions".
Here's my personal transcript of that portion of the interview... Colmes: Murtha turned out to have correct information. Dick Durbin was talking about treatment gitmo specifically. Col North: Alan, let's deal with these one at a time. Colmes: We don't have a lot of time but let's deal with them. Col. North: There is no proof of what Mr. Murtha said because those trials have not taken place yet. And you believe, as i do. Colmes: There have been convictions. Col. North: Innocent until proven guilty. Colmes: There have been confessions
Colmes was grossly mistaken. There have been no confessions from any of the Marines accused in the Haditha incident. There has yet to be a hearing for these Marines ergo no convictions. Like all American citizens, the Marines are innocent until proven guilty.
Colmes owes these Marines an apology and an on-air correction. John Murtha and the media have done their best to convict these Marines in the court of public opinion. Our soldiers deserve so much better than this.
When I spoke to his office 10 days to 2 weeks ago, I was told he strongly disagrees with what murtha says. Time for him to step up to the plate again.
GOP Congressman and Former POW Rips John Murtha

Amid cheers, whistles and two standing ovations, U.S. Rep. Sam Johnson (R-Texas) took fellow Congressman John Murtha (D-Pa.) and the U.S. media behind the proverbial woodshed for a verbal walloping.
"Most of you know, at the end of last year, a liberal congressman from Pennsylvania insisted we immediately withdraw our troops from Iraq," Johnson told the Conservative Political Action Conference on Thursday. "When I heard this, it made my blood boil."
"It hurt to think what the men and women in harm's way would believe when they heard the news that someone in Congress was not behind America's mission," Johnson said. "It hurt to think what the military families here at home would believe when they learned that people in Washington did not support the troops. And it hurt me to think that some people would just give up on our men and women in uniform.
"I do know what it's like to be far from home, serving your country, risking your life and hearing that America doesn't care about you," Johnson said, choking back tears. "[Hearing] your Congress doesn't care about you. Your Congress just cut off all funding for your war. They're packing up and going home and leaving you."
Johnson added he was "scared to death" by such talk because years ago, he was afraid he would be left in Vietnam "forever."
"I know what it does to the mission," said Johnson, "and so help me God, I will never, ever let our nation make those mistakes again."
It's a prop. I've seen people do that in meetings. They never even make a note.
Now I am too scared to look.
I mentioned to Brit ume that I thought that Colmes is a liar, and should not be on Fox News.
Well it ain't Curious George! Go ahead take a peek.
LOL!
Was he speaking as Gollum or Smeagol?
colmes would buy the knife for his own executioner-he has a simpering love of everything left wing and destructive-in the previous generation he'd have talked about the soviet union in hushed and reverent tones-he's a piece of dirt
I know .....I just thought it was funny that I even got a reply. I think most of the media are loons IMO. I did get a laugh out of it. I have written about Colmes to Fox News and made it a reasonable normal email.
Is Rep. Johnson still in Congress? He sounds like he would make an excellant spokesperson for the accused Marines and Soldiers. A good PR offensive is what's so sadly missing from each of these cases. Americans get confused between the various case, most media only broadcast the worst, and sadly since there have been some pleas in the Hamdania case, too many Americans assume it's absolute fact and shy away from defending the remaining accused.
Murtha is at the heart of this whole mess. After the NY Times printed the accusations in mid-March, Murtha started referring to the Marines as murderers. He was given an inordinant amount of respect, even from the VP, for having served. Shortly, thereafter a myriad of accusations/charges came out - Hamdania, Phan & others assault case, the Iron Triangle, Mahmoudiya rape case, and then Haditha. It was a busy spring/summer for investigators and too many in the congress/military seemed to be busy showing they could be tough on the military as well. Few stood up to vigorously defend them in front or behind the cameras.
Now Murtha is on a power trip in Congress exploding at a Republican committee member regarding spending for the war. Whatever his problem is, he needs to be confronted directly, forcefully, and repeatedly. Our service men and women deserve much better, along with the rest of the country.
You mean the way he talks about Chavez?
LOL!
Well, I just hate it. It irritates the heck out of me. Why can't he just sit that pen down and use it only if it is needed. I wonder if he knows how irritating it is. It makes him look like the biggest dummy. Geez, why do these people grate on us so?
He is a dummy. But women love him.
yeah-for one example :))
Yes he is and yes he would be an excellent spokesperson.
I have called his office and begged him to speak out. Who knows if he has ever gotten the message.
If MANY of us called and emailed, perhaps we would begin to see some action! Duncan Hunter would be another one to contact. Of course you can't email them unless you are in their district. ;*(
but that wouldn't be fair
That's great
Next, I'm going to create a blog entry on Defend Our Marines, calling for Fox to give air time to Darryl Sharratt on one of their programs.
Then I'll post the blog entry, with links to the transcript and Kit's Front Line site, here on Free Republic. I'm going as fast as I can, but that may not be until later this afternoon. Once it's up, we need to make as much noise about it as we can.
So that's the plan. Hopefully, I'll be back in touch by three.
GOOD on you BTTT
