Under what authority does Congress give the FDA the power to regulate tobacco? The Constitution does not give Congress the power to regulate tobacco.

I have no idea. I guess they can do anything they want to!

You stated you've smoked for a generation. There's not many people who've smoked that length of time and honestly not realized the damage it's done to them. And time has a cumulative effect - it adds up.

Ah geese.......get a life!  And while your at it, mind you own business.

You almost need the power of God to crack the addiction of smoking.

After 17 years, I quit cold turkey 4 years ago. Haven't had a single lapse. God had nothing to do with it. Nor did Congress.

The FDA regulates foods, drugs, and cosmetics. Tobacco is none of these

Nicotine is a psychoactive addictive drug. Open and shut case anytime the nannies want to push the issue.

While we both agree that nicotine is a drug as the word is commonly used, the word drug has a different and more specific meaning under the Food Drug and Cosmetic Act. It is defined as a substance used to cure, mitigate or treat disease. For this reason, new legislation would be needed in order to empower the FDA busybodies to regulate tobacco as badly as they regulate everything else.

I am sorry I wrote my post in a way that was confusing.

"And while your at it, mind you own business."

That, I can do, although in initiating the exchange between the two of us, it was you who first inserted your opinions into a comment I made to a fellow FReeper - not once, but twice. Neither time had I advised you to "mind your own business", so for future reference, I'll try to keep that in mind if you so wish, but you can believe I'll reply when directly addressed.

And I'd appreciate it if you don't call me geese.
