Someone apparently forgot to get the memo to winter about the imminent threat from global warming. This story says some areas of New York State have received 100 inches of snow since last Sunday and could get 4 more feet, yes feet, next week.
Oh, pardon my ignorance. Global warming, portrayed by internet inventor Al Gore and some really smart people at the UN as the biggest crisis in world history, is now about climate change. So it can get really cold, and that also means its warming. And if you dont understand that logic, you probably didnt go to the right school.
Remember those photos of poor polar bears supposedly marooned on melting icebergs? Did you also see the photos of the Swedish reindeer? You didnt? The ones
starving in Sweden because the ice on the ground is too thick this winter? Now, theres
an inconvenient truth.
Well, do you remember this past hurricane season? No? Thats because there were very few hurricanes of any note. The climate change prophets of doom in 2006 predicted the meteorological equivalent of a disaster epic, with cyclonic monsters out for revenge because of all the damage your SUV did to the planet. Oops. Another no-show by nature. I live a few miles from the ocean in Virginia Beach and I cannot remember a calmer hurricane season.
The city of Chicago was once buried under an ice sheet that was
one mile thick.
Want to the earth to cool? Be careful what you wish for.

So let me get this straight. If it gets colder its GW, if it gets warmer its GW, if it rains its GW and if we have droughts its GW. GW doesn't mean the whole globe and as the climate gets warmer NA and Europe will get colder, even though the signs of GW are supposedly warmer temps in NA and Europe. Thank you Mr. Gore.
You forgot volcanic and seismic activity. I'm assuming some kook will link them to GW also.

In real temps; none of that "Wind Chill" cr@p. Really, that 'wind chill' reporting has gotten way out of hand. My guess is that they use it (or overuse it) in order for their reports to sound more dramatic ... "OMMYGOD! It's minus 22 out there!" (when its really +8 with a 15mph wind) ... +8 is still cold, to be sure, but certainly not as dire as -22. Many times while listening to the radio while driving to work, they'll be reporting the 'wind chill temp' rather than the actual temp, it tends to sound more dramatic than it really is, which is the effect that these reporters want to instill

My drains freeze too, I can cope with no water for a day or too but no drain sucks big time.
If it's just the traps, buy some cheap windshield washer fluid and dump a quart or so in the drain when you think it might freeze. I have a cabin that is unused most of the time and that's how I keep the drains flowing there.

Get some 5 gallon buckets. wash dishes and throw it out in the snow. Crap in them and be a little more careful where you throw them. I suggest in the neighbors yard, You know the neighbor that has that big dog that craps in your yard?
LOL.

We are freezing our butts off up here in southern Wisconsin. It's only slightly better here in W. Mich.
We get a bit of warming from the lake. Of course, we also get lake effect, which means I'm on the tractor every other day, pushing snow around.
Our "average" high for Feb. is 31-32F. Our 7-day forecast is for continued 10-15 below "normal".
A local newspaper websites' weather link offers a glimmer of hope - temps may actually reach into the 30s, week after next.
Looks like I better get the Coppertone and cutoffs ready!!!

They have overplayed their hand as expected. Exactly. They panicked. The grant $$$ weren't flowing in as they'd hoped because this time the sheeple were a little more skeptical than usual.
A week or so ago, the high temperatures in my neck of the woods were struggling to get above freezing. The same week back in 1951, highs here were in the mid-'60s, and no one was squawking about "global warming" or "climate change."
That may be anecdotal, but so was predicting a major 2006 hurricane season on the basis of a freak season in 2005.
It's just as H.L. Mencken said: "The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary."

Well, do you remember this past hurricane season? No? Thats because there were very few hurricanes of any note. I think the globe cooled temporarily. Then it became really hot around Christmas. In Minneapolis we are now (post the hot house Christmas) experiencing a cold snap to rival the last one of this length dating back to the 1930's.
If Gore would just come to Minneapolis and give a speech, I think we could break this cold snap. Come to think of it, wasn't he in the neighborhood around Christmas?

And a few years ago, after a massive snow storm in Nebraska in November, our local weather reporter asked, with a pained look of terror on her face, "The question everyone is asking, Is it El Nino!"
Snowstorms are common in Nebraska in November but El Nino had been hyped all year.

Hooey. "Global warming also means colder in other parts." Boy, that theory just covers EVERY contingent doesn't it?

What I think is funny is that the POLAR weather started about a DAY after our dear Arnold declared California a Global Warming STATE. hahahah. Oh it's too sweet.

If, in fact, the climate as a whole is getting warmer, one of the short term effects will be colder weather in North America and Europe, as polar ice melts, drifts into the North Atlantic, and cools the neighboring continents.AGW is the penultimate unified theory, it predicts everything and nothing. They can never be wrong.
Here's my prediction. The Earth will once again glaciate and deglaciate. Wanna bet I'm wrong?

Our 7-day forecast is for continued 10-15 below "normal". This would be one of the issues that I have with Global Warming, or it's new fuzzier moniker "Climate Change"... In December, temps locally were 10-15 degrees above normal. As per the media, we were all going to DIE from GW/Climate Change.
The last few weeks, temps have been 10-15 degrees below normal. Not a peep about them. It's just winter, and it's cold.

My guess would be that your secondary vent is on the prevailing wind side of the house, relatively unsheltered.
The cold wind blows, up the stack, and that toilet is tapped directly into the stack.
That's my amateur opinion.
My amateur fix would be to set the float on that toilet so that the water level is low enough not to overflow with a flush, typical "contents" and through the fill cycle.
At least you could get back to bed sooner, and worry about the full, but un-overflowed ceramic fixture, in the daylight hours.
To: Lurking Libertarian
It is not colder because "polar ice melts, drifts into the North Atlantic".

BTW, with all that "melting" going on, the rise in sea level is virtually unmeasurable.

If, in fact, the climate as a whole is getting warmer, one of the short term effects will be colder weather in North America and Europe, as polar ice melts, drifts into the North Atlantic, and cools the neighboring continents. Do you really think that enough icebergs can float from Western Greenland to effect Western Europe and how about Western North America?

Thanks for the advice. I will wait till it thaws out here to reset it though.

It is a theory
The definition of "theory" these days is a kooky idea that can get a bunch of professors federal and international funding.
The Earth gets colder sometimes, sometimes it gets warmer. It is a fascinating feature of this "theory" (at least as preached by media and political types) that draws a circle around China and India and says that they have no effect on the Earth's climate, eh?

Good job. Weather global warming is true or not, challenging idiots to back up their work with solid fact is important.
