MoveOn.org Ads Blast Sen. Brownback on Iraq Surge
Newsmax ^ | 2/9/2007

The liberal group MoveOn.org is airing television ads around the country criticizing Kansas Sen. Sam Brownback and other Republicans for supporting President Bush's plan to send more troops to Iraq.

But Brownback is the only GOP presidential hopeful on the record against a troop increase.

The ad shows a photo of Brownback with the word "escalate" next to his mouth. An announcer scolds Brownback and other Republicans for voting earlier this week to block the start of debate on a nonbinding resolution that disapproves of Bush's plan.

"A majority of Americans oppose escalation in Iraq," the voiceover says. "Yet instead of allowing a vote on escalation, the Republicans blocked the debate. They're willing to send tens of thousands more troops to face danger in Iraq, but they don't have the courage to face a vote. Tell Senator Brownback: stop the escalation."

Tom Matzzie, Washington director for Moveon.org, said the organization stands behind the ad.

"They stalled the vote and therefore stalled the Senate from disagreeing with the president," Matzzie said. "And Brownback participated in that."

Despite Brownback's repeated statements opposing escalation, Matzzie said the senator's vote to delay debate is "sending the message to the president that it's okay to escalate in Iraq."

Brownback came out against the presidents plan... This is what he gets for siding with the enemy. He should know that these people are not his friends.. Weed him out of the pres race.

Is there any Republican that Move-On hasn't bashed? If I were Brownback I wouldn't worry about them.

7 treasonous Republican Senators now say they will support the Rats in cloture of the BS resolution. Brownnoseback will prove to be one of the biggest RINOs before election.

Only a liberal would figure someone means something other than what they say.

Weed him out? In favor of whom? A liberal like Giuliani or McCain?

I see nothing wrong with Brownback politely disagreeing with the president's plan, and not cooperating with a show vote designed to embarrass the president.

No one is perfect this time around, but Brownback is the best of the lot.

Harry Reid could bring up the Warner resolution anytime he wants, provided he brings up the Gregg resolution and the McCain resolution too.

Between that and his support of illegal alien amnesty, Brownback can join the dems, for all I care. Though he is STRONGLY pro-life... I'm SURE that's why he's getting hit by move-on.

Brownback picked the wrong friends and they stabbed him in the back. I'd sooner vote for giuliani who at least knows where he stands.

I'm waiting for the left to starting harping on Brownback's membership in Opus Dei, and treating "The DaVinci Code" as if it were fact and somehow involved in the current US election.

disapproval from the ACLU or Movoeon should signal that you are doing the right thing.

Hmmm . . . who could start the attack? Maybe, John "Skull & Bones" Kerry? "Sheets" Byrd? Obama was at U of Chicago, do you know how many conspiracy theories involve that Rockefeller founded institution? (on both left AND right). Heck, I used to take my dinners at 1313 E. 60th Street (Burton-Judson Hall), the address of a number of these things!

Keep in mind, the best thing that could happen to Brownback is to be attacked (and therefore noticed) by the left. That raises his visibility and therefore electability with the rest of us.

Just as long as they spell his name right.
