Little glamour in L.A., "gang capital of America"

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - They call themselves the Bounty Hunters, the Midget Locos, Project Gangster Blood and China Town Boyz and most of them don't expect to live beyond age 20.

Forty years after the Bloods and the Crips put Los Angeles on the map, the number of gangs in Los Angeles County has swelled to about 1,000 and their estimated 88,000 members are drawn from every ethnicity -- Asians, blacks, Latinos, whites.

"Los Angeles county and city is, unfortunately, the gang capital of America," Los Angeles County Sheriff Lee Baca said as police on Thursday announced a crackdown on the city's 11 worst gangs.

Welcome, multiculturalism's inevitable result. This is a snapshot of our future as a nation. Half won't speak english, two thirds will be on direct government subsidies and those who don't fit into those two categories wil be preyed upon by both government and the two thirds who have nothing better to do. This is the third world. We probably ought to get used to it.

There is NO possibility of victory in LA or other areas in California so why are we still there?

It's a civil war. We should cut funding.

This is why the Second Amendment is crucial. Without weapons to defend yourself and your family, you are simply prey. The police will provide crime tape and the yellow chalk to outline your body.

Forty years after the Bloods and the Crips put Los Angeles on the map...

Reuters hadn't heard of Los Angeles before 1967?

As long as Tacredo doesn't say LA is the "gang capital of America" it's okay.

America will not do what is necessary to "fix" the gang "problem" in LA. In order:

1) Close your borders -- particularly the South one but also pay attention to the North.

2) Cancel NAFTA. Free trade with Canada is probably OK -- making it wider was a mistake.

3) Deport *all* illegals. This may hurt your wine industry: too bad. If it needs cheap labor to be viable then it isn't worth having.

4) Ban hip-hop and anything that advocates killing cops, perpetuating violence and perpetrating crime. It is an unacceptable lifestyle and should be punished as such. Severely.

5) Outlaw spray-cans. Sure, this will upset a few hobbyists. TS -- if they are serious about making clean paint jobs they will rent an air compressor and proper air brush equipment. Spray-cans are good for one thing only: grafitti.

6) Give one warning -- only one -- to some of your more prominent "celebrities" who have made money from the gangsta hip-hop subculture: cease-and-desist else go to Gaol for inciting social insurrection. Then prosecute and make it stick.

Hey, you Yanks invented this gang-bang "culture" -- it will take hard yards and tough measures to get rid of it. Over to you. You can jolly well fix it. It has exported itself far too well overseas: we are dealing with in in NZ much more than we ever wanted to. It costs a fortune and contributes *nothing* to Society as a whole.

Yeah I thought LA was kind of famous before Mexican gangs moved in to stay.

Oh awesome, hate speech laws. That's a terrible plan.

All though I do have to say that maybe hip hop would be good again if it was forced back underground. Ice Cube really needs to stop making movies and go back to rapping.

> Oh awesome, hate speech laws. That's a terrible plan.

What reasonable grounds would you have for objecting to restrictions on advocating killing cops, perpetuating violence and perpetrating crime?

"Free Speech?" Shyeah right. Like calling "fire!" in a crowded theater. There should be some limits on Free Speech -- and as history is proving, there is a need for some harsh limits. "Free Speech" should not be an Absolute right: it should instead be a well-respected Civic Responsibility.

With each "Freedom" should come a concommitant Responsibility. Seen plenty of Freedom being exercised. A wee bit lite on the Responsibility side of the equation.

Well Die hard everything you wrote there makes sense. So we wont do any of it.

I read the other day that 95% of all homicides in LA were committed by illegals.

We can see in Mexico how anarchy has become the rule as guns are taken away from police officers and they send in the military, which isnt any better , in an effoprt to control drug cartels. Beheadings and killings have become the rule of the day. How long before Southern California is just as bad. Then it spreads like a cancer across the country. One day there will be another Mexican war between Americans and Mexican illegals.

Why decent people choose to live in California is beyond me when land is so cheap in Missouri, Arkansas, Oklahoma, etc.

Because of the bonus gifts those state offer. The cheap tornadoes, cheap hail, cheap ice-storms, cheap giant bugs, and cheap country music blaring in every single commerical establishment have a lot to do with that. ;)

Seriously, it's possible to live very well even in the L.A. Basin and never encounter any gang activity - you just have to know where not to go.
