Sounds like they read "The Mote in Gods Eye" by Larry Niven and Jerry Pournelle - scifi of the first stripe.

From a review of the book - "given control of the Museums where knowledge is carefully stored to aid recovery after collapse."

So seed storage and UN cultural sites = Motie Museums?

Well, if we are going sci fi here, then the vault should be placed in orbit with re-entry triggered by lack of continued ping from earth. 7/8570082

The entry to the vault, which will shoot out of the mountainside, will be a narrow triangular portal made of cement and steel,...

Sounds both comic bookish and overly dangerous.

And, what or WHO are they planning on the entrance shooting?

I hate Smurfs, (Up the Purple People Eaters!) so put me on that list, please!

It's not mankind's fault. It's all caused by the sun. And it's going to get worse.

Global warming, my foot. It really is to protect seeds and plants from the effects of a nuclear exchange and holocaust. Sad to say, is probably coming soon.

This is a bit screwball but not harmful. There are other disasters that could make this a good idea.

It is actually a fairly good idea. As long as they are not wanting us to foot the bill.

In a 1000 years some archaeologist is going to find this tunnel. They will decide it was built by a death cult which dispersed after the doom didn't occur.

I'm sure someone in the future will be glad these seeds were burried and the location well documented so that our decendants could dig down through miles of glacial ice to get to them!
