Subaru is to show the world's first horizontally-opposed turbo diesel engine at the Geneva Motor Show next month.
The Japanese company, which specialises in all-wheel drive cars, will be displaying an entire drivetrain at the show.
Despite the addition of diesels to its engine line-up, Subaru is sticking to its boxer engines, preferring their compact size and the ability to provide a much lower centre-of-gravity, which in turn reduces body roll.
Due to be introduced into Subaru cars early next year, the company claims that the boxer turbo diesel will combine 'unusually strong pulling power at low engine speeds with high-rev throttle-response'.
An Impreza with even more torque? We can't wait.
