Nancy Pelosi has decided to play the gender card. For good measure, she's thrown in a soupcon of Rumsfeld-phobia. MSNBC just aired a clip of Pelosi making the following remarks on the issue of her demand to the Pentagon for a large plane:
"I don't even know the numbers of the planes. So this is something that is really very strange. That the Department of Defense, the Pentagon, which I have been a constant critic of the war in Iraq, and where I understand Mr. Rumsfeld still has a desk, even though he's no longer the Secretary, has decided that they would go public about a conversation on an issue that applied to the previous Speaker. Now, as a woman, as a woman Speaker of the House, I don't want any less opportunity than male speakers have had when they have served here."
View the video of one angry Pelosi here.In to discuss the matter with host Norah O'Donnell were Kelly Dingell, Dem strategist, and Cheri Jacobus, GOP strategist. Cheri actually offered some very sound advice to the Speaker:
"The biggest mistake that Nancy Pelosi can play right now is to try to play a victim. This business that this is happening to her because she's a woman is ridiculous. She's asked for a larger plane, she's asked for something more than what the previous Speaker had. It's ridiculous and naive of her to think that people aren't going to look at this and want to know why. She's talking about this ethical Congress, they're supposed to be big environmentalists. I think it's ridiculous for her to make this about her being a woman, and a huge mistake on her part."
Dingell and O'Donnell emphasized that Pelosi was seeking a plane that could fly her home to California non-stop. But as many readers have pointed out, that in no way justifies the need for the 162-seat behemoth Pelosi has been seeking. There are any number of executive-sized jets with more than enough range to go California dreamin' -- non-stop.
When Dingell suggested there was good reason to suspect that someone "leaked" the story, Jacobus had a telling rebuttal: "I have a problem with the term 'leaked.' It shouldn't be a secret. Is it something [Pelosi] thought should have been kept secret?"
Precisely.
My good-faith two cents of advice to the Speaker: check the screencap. When MSNBC brands the flap "Air Pelosi," you've lost the argument. Cut your losses and move on.

What beauty pageant did she come out of?
Sounds like something out of EmptyVEE.
**ROLLING EYES UPWARD**
Now, this is the kind of thing that conjures up the stereotype of the petty woman.
C'mon, Nancy. Be like Thatcher, not like the gossipy, petty woman in curlers next door.
What she's so enraged about is that this got out; God only knows what else she's done behind our backs.
As for me, this part of being on the minority side is pretty cool...............LOL.
Let THEM take the lumps for two years!
"If she was confident in her appeal to the people, she'd fly commercial for more exposure"
That must expalin why you cannot find a SINGLE picture of her with an ARMED US Soldier while she was in Iraq....
BTW, every time I see your name now I start laughing about that Hillary-Pelosi picture and your quote!
That's one of the funniest things I've EVER seen on FR.
(O/T -- we're gonna get two storms next week, so hear!)
Nancy has no class.
Ms. Pelosi needs to be careful about the lighting in some of the hallways.
Nancy who do I see in the DOD to get my free airplane,a voter.
She's clearly unaccustomed to heavy scrutiny, and has more than a few faux-regal quirks to fuel the fire. She's already a caricature, not two months into becoming Speaker. It should be worth a few laughs.
Not with those rudimentary hydraulics in there. The Goose would have to be a balsa wood glider to fit her ego.
This from a sexist who believes that government could be or should be run differently with a woman in charge.
I hope Rumsfeld will make some kick-ass comments on this.
He was always a master of direct, spot-on (and funny) comments.
Maybe the White House should replace Snow with Rumsfeld? Hehe...
Pelosi will have to fight her for the title:
;-)
The C-32 is the same airframe as a Boeing 757. The Boeing 757-200 can accommodate as many as 239 passengers in a single-aisle six-abreast cabin arrangement.
Nancy needs this all to herself to accomodate her fat a$$ and overinflated ego and sense of entitlement - because, in her own words, she's a woman.
A couple of averages of fuel consumption are below as per each aircraft.
Boeing 757-200/C32 - 4.014gal/mile
Boeing 727-222 - 6.426gal/mile
Boeing 737-300 - 4.314gal/mile
Boeing 747-200 - 28.857gal/mile (a much larger aircraft than the previous three)
To illustrate the differences in each phase of flight, one can see the fuel consumption rates during the flight of a Boeing 757-200
Fuel Burn: 4.014gal/mile
Fuel Burn @ Climb: 2681.55gal/hr
Fuel Burn @ Cruise: 1191.8gal/hr
Fuel Burn @ Descent: 376.358gal/hr
So Queen nancy would burn about 24,000 gallons of fuel per round trip to get to work. Not only that, but the supposedly environmentally conscious Democrat would be ripping a huge rent in the ozone to transport a single person in an airliner which can carry 239 people.
"Look, up in the sky... it's a bird... it's a plane... it's NANCY PELOSI ripping a huge hole in the ozone..."
The battle of the millenium.
(And it's only just begun...)
This is really dumb of her, complaining about the size of her airplane. This kinda thing can stick with you and identify you in the public mind.
Now, as a woman, as a woman Speaker of the House, I don't want any less opportunity than male speakers have had...
Hmmm, that's very telling.
Professionally speaking I'd say San Fran Nan is suffering from a case of penis envy. She also has a fan jet inferiority complex.
For her own safety she should be locked up in a 'Loony Bin' (medical term) stat.
