Pelosi Blames Sexism, Rummy for Plane-Gate
NewsBusters ^ | Mark Finkelstein

Nancy Pelosi has decided to play the gender card. For good measure, she's thrown in a soupcon of Rumsfeld-phobia. MSNBC just aired a clip of Pelosi making the following remarks on the issue of her demand to the Pentagon for a large plane:

"I don't even know the numbers of the planes. So this is something that is really very strange. That the Department of Defense, the Pentagon, which I have been a constant critic of the war in Iraq, and where I understand Mr. Rumsfeld still has a desk, even though he's no longer the Secretary, has decided that they would go public about a conversation on an issue that applied to the previous Speaker. Now, as a woman, as a woman Speaker of the House, I don't want any less opportunity than male speakers have had when they have served here."

View the video of one angry Pelosi here.In to discuss the matter with host Norah O'Donnell were Kelly Dingell, Dem strategist, and Cheri Jacobus, GOP strategist. Cheri actually offered some very sound advice to the Speaker:

"The biggest mistake that Nancy Pelosi can play right now is to try to play a victim. This business that this is happening to her because she's a woman is ridiculous. She's asked for a larger plane, she's asked for something more than what the previous Speaker had. It's ridiculous and naive of her to think that people aren't going to look at this and want to know why. She's talking about this ethical Congress, they're supposed to be big environmentalists. I think it's ridiculous for her to make this about her being a woman, and a huge mistake on her part."

Dingell and O'Donnell emphasized that Pelosi was seeking a plane that could fly her home to California non-stop. But as many readers have pointed out, that in no way justifies the need for the 162-seat behemoth Pelosi has been seeking. There are any number of executive-sized jets with more than enough range to go California dreamin' -- non-stop.

When Dingell suggested there was good reason to suspect that someone "leaked" the story, Jacobus had a telling rebuttal: "I have a problem with the term 'leaked.' It shouldn't be a secret. Is it something [Pelosi] thought should have been kept secret?"

Precisely.

My good-faith two cents of advice to the Speaker: check the screencap. When MSNBC brands the flap "Air Pelosi," you've lost the argument. Cut your losses and move on.

Maybe Pelosi can get a smaller jet with inflight refueling capability so that she doesn't have to land and refuel.

Maybe they can get Bush 41's SR-51 our of retirement. A nice quick ride and the g-forces will help smooth her wrinkles.

She's just another arrogant limousine liberal, with delusions of grandeur adequacy.

There, that's more accurate.

What would be the difference between the fuel burn, and the fuel burn @ cruise for the C32?

The C32 is the same airframe as a 757.

Fuel Burn: 4.014gal/mile Fuel Burn @ Climb: 2681.55gal/hr Fuel Burn @ Cruise: 1191.8gal/hr Fuel Burn @ Descent: 376.358gal/hr

So Nancy Pelosi - who supposedly is worried about our nation's fuel consumption and the environment - needs 24,000 gallons of jet fuel per trip to get back and forth to work.

My husband (who doesn't pay much attention to politics) told me about this .. and I won't repeat what he said *L*

BTW .. Have any pilots chimed in on TV this plane issue??

The reason why I ask is because there was a caller on Glen Beck's show this morning that said he use to fly military planes and knows about this type of plane and that it can indeed fly coast to coast without refueling

Do we know more about this plane the Pentagon gives the Speaker of the House??

Also ... another caller said that Gramma Pelosi is acting like she is the Prime Minster of the United States

As I have said on numerous occasions, Nancy Pelosi is not a bright person...she is rather dumb in fact. She continues to step in the biggest pile on the lawn over and over. Bring on the popcorn!!

after claiming that it was security (since the the air force base where they would refuel is pretty darn secure.)

Sounds like she doesn't trust the military

The real reason she wants a large craft is so she can travel with a large fawning entourage of sycophants. I can just imagine the go-list for this boondoggle.

keepitreal .. Is that the plane the Pentagon issued the Speaker of the House??

If so .. sure looks like she can fly coast to coast without stopping to refuel

C-37A (Gulfstream) has a range of 6300 miles and seats 12 passengers.

"Broomstick 1"

LOL! No doubt that'll be the Air Force callsign for whatever aircraft she eventually "settles for".

Pelosi is whining because she doesn't have an elephantine carbon footprint to go with her ego.

Interesting, so you're at least a little Scotch-Irish. There was also a John Walker in Tryon's Militia, who fought the Regulators. Is this Colonel John Walker?

let the dems have everything they want, let them conduct the war as they see fit the sooner they screw it all up the faster we will be rid of them...unfotunately a lot of innocents may suffer...the dems and 99% of hollywood ascribe to the Neville Chamberlain school of diplomacy -sooner or later the realists amongst us will have to pick up the pieces and right the ship....

She should get the SAME and nothing more than Hastert got.
Her relatives and hangers on should fly commerical like the rest of us common folk.
Whatever Hastert got, she gets and NOTHING more.
I'm already SICK TO DEATH of this screacher!

I wish that big vein in her forehead would just explode already.
