LONDON (AFP) - British Muslims live in a "police state", one of two men released by police after being held in connection with an investigation into an alleged "Iraq-style" kidnapping and beheading plot, said in an interview with the BBC.
The man, identified by the television broadcaster as Abu Bakar, also described how he was detained and questioned.
"It's a police state for Muslims," the man, who did not show his face for fear of attracting attention to him and his family, said in the interview.
"It's not a police state for anybody else ... These terror laws are designed specifically for Muslims."
"We are feeling the brunt of it all."
Nine men were arrested a week ago in connection with the plot, which security sources had said was an "Iraq-style" plot to kidnap and behead a British Muslim soldier, and then apparently post a video of the execution on the Internet.
Seven men are still being questioned by police.
According to the man, police "hand-cuffed me ... I wasn't told why I was being arrested, or what the allegations against me" were."
"Only when the solicitor (lawyer) came did they inform me that there was some crazy plot about someone trying to behead people of the British army or what not," he said.
"I just thought, maybe they're just rounding people up, and they want to question people with regard to other individuals."
He also criticised the authorities for thinking he could just get back to his life as usual, saying: "I am scared for myself, and my family, because I've been picked up, I've been told to go back home, and one assuming that somebody can just pick up their life after just such a major incident that occurred."
"This is going to affect me for the rest of my life."

Stop blowing stuff up and beheading people and maybe people might think better of Muslims in the UK. Maybe people are wary of Mulsims in the UK because their reputation is justly earned. Similar sentiments were expressed about the Irish when the IRA was blowing up Tube stations. Why should Muslims be exempt from this? Just a thought.

Their image has been tarnished for a thousand years, and perhaps, this in itself may be the most powerful factor in destroying Islam once and for all.
He has a right to be scared in that nasty bigoted England. He should take his family to a nicer friendlier place like Iraq or Algeria where they can be safe.All the other moussulmans in England should do that, too.
They bring it on themselves.If they don't like it - they are more than welcome to move back to a Muslim -loving country.

I have often wondered if the mutilation of young Muslim womens clitoris, actually the forced removal of, affects them for the rest of the lives?
