WASHINGTON, Feb. 7, 2007 – All seven crewmembers and passengers were killed when a Marine Corps CH-46 Sea Knight helicopter went down in Iraq’s Anbar province this morning, a senior U.S. military officer based in Baghdad confirmed today.

Army Maj. Gen. William B. Caldwell IV, Multinational Force Iraq spokesman, told reporters the helicopter went down about 20 miles northwest of Baghdad.

The helicopter and its crew were conducting routine operations, military officials said. The servicemembers’ names are being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

Caldwell would not comment on the possible causes of the incident. “The investigation is going on as we speak,” he said. A quick reaction force team had arrived at the crash site, he added.

I think the rash of helo losses might prove to be new weapons from Iran, Syria, or Russia.

We need $10 oil and quick.

Your think the Russian's might be supplying the Terrorists with shoulder-fired surface-to-air missile like we did to them in Afghanistan?

The CH-46 was far from brand new when I was flying in 69-73. Not exactly the most stable platform for out troops to be riding in 2007.

The Army faces the same issue with the CH-47.

Several reports that the chopper was shot down. An islamic web site reports that "islamic republic of Iraq air defense department" shot it down with a missile.

How long are we going to play war games? The missile could have come from Iran by way of China or Russia.

The administration and congress, of course, are clueless.

A lot of crashes lately. Maybe it would be a good idea to stand back and take a better look at the way they are doing stuff.
