I'm in R&D. We don't keep huge amounts of chemicals around.

Those rail cars have a pressure relief device on them. That is probably what the "steam" is. I am guessing the set pressure of the relief valve is probably around 75 to 100psi

Mineral Spirits have a flash point of around 109degrees F. the auto ignition temp is around 473 degrees F. As long as the relief valve functions there should be little chance of a "BLEVE" or Boiling Liquid Expanding Vapor Explosion. If that relief valve fails things will get real exciting real fast!!!

Not all that unusual when you have a large fire event. Especially when it is mainly outdoors as this one is. The large amount of burning petrol products that are burning are gonna produce some pretty good thermal currents. This will get the lighter items, like insulation, up where the winds can catch them and send them down wind.

But yea it would be kinda wierd to have some black stuff falling in my yard when I am several miles away :-)

So all it takes to get you two active on the web is belching black smoke to two thousand feet and flames 300 feet high....

wish I had known that sooner...

bwa ha ha ha ha ha

In reality I have been busier than a cat with two tails in a room full of rocking chairs. Don't have as much time for Freepin as I used to.

I left the St Joseph hospital out south where my Dad is and could see the smoke from there. Of course, as the fire is in the river valley the flames weren't visible from there but I could see them as soon as I crossed I-70 going south on 435 in Missouri.

I had seen the intial helicopter photos at the hospital and knew this little clam bake would go on for some time.

LOL! How have you been? I'm usually here. Just don't post much.

Glad no one was hurt in this fire today. Could have been a lot worse.

The hospital President Bush visited in Lee's Summit recently is right next to where I work. Got a very good look at the motorcade and a very brief glimpse of the President as he exited the limo. Secret Service and a swat team were in our plant checking things out. Armored vehicle in our parking lot during his visit.

Thanks for keeping the posts up on this. I heard about it on the evening news down here and then had to leave for church. I was born and raised in KC and didn't realize there were some FReepers up there!

The latest news according to Fox4 here in KC is that if the Gas Company can get to the gas to shut it off to the building then the FD will attempt to suppress the fire using foam. Otherwise it could be 72 hours maybe longer till the fire burns out.

You would be proud of the KC freeping crowd. We had four rally/protests at the Nichols fountain by the Plaza during the recount, freeper protests at Clinton appearances, and a variety of freeper get-togethers over the years. We managed to get over a hundred attendees at some of the recount rallies but, of course, only about a third were FR readers and posters.

I loved to see the lawyers, investment guys and the like driving through in their Buicks and BMWs seeing a protest and then doing a smiling double take when they realized it was a right-wing protest instead of the the lefties in that park for the six hundredth time...LOL

LOL I've dipped my toes in that fountain a number of times as a kid!

That's pretty awesome! If you have a ping list would you add me? Not that I can probably get away to make it up there but it's cool to have news from the "hometown" crowd!
