Neturei Karta rabbi's kids expelled
Jerusalem Post ^ | Feb. 7, 2007

The children of an Austrian rabbi who attended an Iranian conference that questioned the Holocaust have been expelled from their school and told no other Jewish school in Austria will take them, their father said Tuesday.

Moishe Arye Friedman said he has begun legal proceedings against the school. He said his four school-age children were told to leave Monday.

A letter shown by Friedman with the letterhead of the school said one of the reasons for the expulsions was his "outrageous behavior" in attending the Holocaust conference last month.

Friedman was among Jewish participants who hugged Iranian President Mahhmoud Ahmadinejad, who has described the Holocaust as a myth and called for Israel to be wiped off the map.

Friedman is associated with, but not a member of Neturei Karta, a small, fiercely anti-Zionist sect that opposes the drive to establish the state of Israel, believing only the Messiah could do that.

Responding to criticism after the trip to Iran, Neturei Karta said it has never denied the Holocaust or its proportions. They believe Ahmadinejad has been unfairly vilified and that they should be praised for persuading him that his anger should be directed at Israel, not the Jewish people.

On the one hand, I loathe these NK freaks, but I don't think kids should suffer because their parents are whackjobs.

See, no one denies there was a holocaust, proof to support my holocaust denier denial.

Neturei Karta should put their money where their mouth is and move into arab neighborhoods.

All the expulsion does is reinforce the convenient script in European public opinion that Zionists are fascists.

Though I think this would be grounds to expel the father from his schul.

Sucks to be this guy's kids. They will probably all grow up to become either Christians, Muslims, or Lubavitchers.

Oiy, can you imagine how awkward the parent-teacher conferences must be?

"On the one hand, I loathe these NK freaks, but I don't think kids should suffer because their parents are whackjobs."

Same reaction. I suppose there is some reasonable fear that the parents or their kids will "infect" the school with their insanity, but I tend to follow the advice that good reason (and God) will not allow such insanity to continue for long --- thereby the most likely result will not be contamination of the school, but de-contamination of the NK kids.

Indeed, the best way to de-NK a Jew is to have them around normal Jews.

Neturei Karta has been ostracized by the Orthodox community, they are shunned even by the Satmars.

"Neturei Karta should put their money where their mouth is and move into arab neighborhoods."

Brooklyn jokes aside, most actually lived in the Old City since the mid 1800s, so they pretty much have lived in arab neighborhoods. Or at least their parents did.

Listen, Rabbi...here's a teaching anyone should be able to grasp: "Actions have consequences." And of course, it's corollary: "Try not to act like a moron when it may reflect badly on your family."

Indeed, attending a school where sane ideas are propounded might be these kids' only hope of growing up seeing how stupid their parents' ideas are. But I can see where they may have been disruptive. Not being Jewish, I've never attended a Jewish school, but I used to know a number of kids who did (three different Jewish schools, including one Orthodox), and it was clear that serious discussion of Jewish history, politics, etc. began at an early age. If these kids were spouting their parents' ideas at school, where many students' grandparents are no doubt survivors of Nazi concentration camps, things could have gotten pretty ugly. The school may well have been faced with a choice of kicking these kids out or having outraged parents pull many other kids out.

I suspect that having the kids of a man who told a man that has been preaching the annihilation of all Jews that he should vent his anger at Israel instead of Jews in general would be very disruptive.

Your choices in life effect your family. The rest of society should not be forced to deal with the effects of the problems you bring on yourself and your family.

If he wants to spew such crap, he should find either a secular or public school, or one where his views aren't so abhorrent to the students that attend that school and their families.

No private school should be forced to associate with him.

It removes the disruption the presence of the children of this man are going to cause at the school, and allows the school to concentrate on educating it's pupils.
