Watada's behavior has NOTHING to do with his CONSCIENCE or his belief that the IRAQ War is "ILLEGAL".

IMHO he either PLANNED this from the beginning [he joined after IRAQ started and after he graduated from college] OR he is a coward!!

Call me crazy, but couldn't the Army have saved itself a lot of grief, and sent him to Afghanistan?

He only requested the Army sent him to Afghanistan because he knew they couldn't/wouldn't do that...a soldier/commissioned officer cannot be in the position to be the one todecide where he or she is sent.

That would be total chaos if each one could decide where he or she would serve.

Bump, Huntsville!

I wish that one of these "illegal war" nitwits would, for once, say in precise terms what law has been broken.

They can't do it. So they just keep screaming "illegal" as if throwing the word around will make it so.

As soon as he's sent to Leavenworth, some MSNBC freak will be comparing him to Mandela.

Did you see my post 17, where he joined the Army after The Iraq war had started?

How the hell can the behavior of a member of the Armed Services, who is subject to the UCMJ, be described as civil disobedience?

LOL!...A civilian defense attorney can determine anything he wants. I hope he reminds Watada of that when he gets to Leavenworth because it's definitely not a civilian prison.

Can you imagine what the MSM would have done with Private Slovik during WWII.

In a sane world.....during time of war, this "officer" clown upon being found guilty of refusing a legal order, willful desertion or missing a troop movement - should be taken to the wall and shot...

This country is full of bastards who'll say or do ANYTHING with little regard for the consequences of ILLEGAL or TRAITOROUS activity.

Alas, I fear we have become "too civilized" to deal with these miscreants in the manner they deserve..

Exactly...O'Reilly's producer asked Fonda and Penn questions at the war protest in DC and they couldn't answer the questions, they just made fools of themselves.

They gave him a chance to go back to his unit and he refused?(Slovik) I forever will see the world through the eyes of an ex E-4 but it just seems he lost his will to live altogether. I wonder how long Watada's antics would've been entertained in 1775.

His father was an anti-American activist during the Vietnam war and now actively defends his son's actions. There is something to be said about the possibility of his actions being premeditated since his words/actions seem to be well coordinated with un-American groups.

But Watada explained his actions this way in a video released to the media on June 7...

Mark my words. This POS will be running for congress as a Dem in the next cycle.

Nope, missed that. Thanks for pointing out something that the MSM is ignoring.

"At most, he engaged in an act or form of civil disobedience,"

Oh please.

He is an officer in the US Army, not a civilian standing on a street corner holding a sign.

Hopefully he'll still be at Leavenworth for the next two cycles.

Exactly. A non-civilian can't engage in civil disobedience. And I, living on civvy street, can't be charged under the UCMJ.

I won't call you crazy but the military does not work like civilian life. They have their own rules, regulations and codes of conduct that anyone who has never been in the military would not be able to fully understand.

The military would never have been able to survive these hundreds of years if military personnel were given "other options" simply because they were at odds with the "mission".

This Lt. deserves immediate court martial, imprisonment and denial of access to the media until his jail term is served......

would have probably better off had he gone to Afghanistan.

What with Watada's betrayal of his oath to serve his country, there is no reason to believe that he wouldn't have had a similar change of heart if sent to Afghanistan.

O'Reilly also had Kooky Colonel Ann Wright on the other night. She, too, said the war was illegal but couldn't cite a single fact to back up her assertion. The best that she could do was say it was the opinion of many distinguished people!

PS. Hey, MHalblaub, thought you'd like to join the discussion.
