Out of Control: Chris Matthews Drops F-Bomb In MSNBC Rant Against Bush
NewsBusters.org ^ | February 7, 2007 | Rich Noyes

"Hardball" host Chris Matthews lurched even further off the deep end on Wednesday’s "Imus in the Morning." After praising the “great job” Rudy Giuliani did in cleaning up New York City — which Matthews again suggested was done with just “a pinch” of fascism — the MSNBC star went on a rant declaring how he’s “sick of southern guys with ranches running this country.”

Losing control, Matthews dropped the F-bomb on national television: “I want a guy to run for President who doesn’t have a fucking — I’m sorry, a ranch.” As host Don Imus began to snicker, Matthews plowed ahead with his Democratic talking points: “Wouldn’t that be good, Don, a guy who wasn’t on the ranch during Katrina, he was on the street corner answering questions?”

Video clip (1:25): Real (2.32 MB) or Windows Media (5.39 MB), plus MP3 audio (409 KB)

Radio listeners were spared Matthews’ cursing, but no such luck for those watching the MSNBC simulcast. After saying goodbye to Matthews about three minutes later, Imus and his crew mocked their MSNBC colleague. MSNBC's on-screen file photo of Matthews was altered to include a black censor bar over his mouth. Executive Producer Bernard McGuirk suggested Matthews was the sort who would “put on a diaper and drive 900 miles to abduct Dick Cheney or somebody,” and someone else offered that “he’s crazy.”

Imus was the diplomat: “But isn’t that what we like about him? I love his energy, his passion.”

Here’s the transcript of Matthews’ comments, which happened at about 7:45 ET.

“We love good mayors because we love our cities and Giuliani is the city guy, and I’m so sick of southern guys with ranches running this country. I want a guy to run for president who doesn’t have a fucking — I’m sorry, a ranch. Wouldn’t that be good, Don, a guy who wasn’t on the ranch during Katrina, he was on the street corner answering questions?”

Intelligent people simply don't become liberal talk show hosts, as shown by Mathews' incessant puerile and frankly stupid comments and behavior. I used to give him a fraction of a benefit of a doubt, due to his criticism of Clinton's criminal activities, but no more. Mathews is a failure as a journalist, and worse, he is an a blatant and obvious propagandist for the fringe left in the Democrat Party. May his ratings die a long deserved death.

Ranch hater!

His wife, Kathleen, raises horses in Middleburg. I guess Chris calls it a "horse farm".

The idiot doesn't know that New Orleans had a mayor AND a governor, neither of whom showed up for work?

Well, you need a lot of money first. One idea is to use the family political connections to get involved in a sports stadium deal where you get a piece of the team using borrowed money. Once the voters OK the stadium deal you wait until the team is sold and collect about $15 million. And viola! you have enough money to buy a ranch. Give it a try and see how it works!

I know you holier than thou dinks are out of your minds because mathews said fuck.
But if you had any brains in your head you would have listned to the substance what Crhis said which was Rudi overcame the mindless liberals that were tearing his city apart a broguht some law and order back into it.Something Rudi understands and that some partime billionaire cowboy far removed from reality of the city and anything else for that matter has no clue in how to handle.
Mathews is a fool but he got that one absolutley right except for his gratuitous facist dig.

You know Chris Matthews has been absolutely obcessed with the Libby prosecution, possibly because it was Libby who called Russert, not the other way around. I read that Libby had called Russert to discuss Chris Matthews and the fact that Matthews was out of control.

The last time I checked, Virginia was considered part of the South too.

What a complete and total buffoon Chrissy is.

It just kills Chrissy that the "smart" people in the country (i.e. from the Northeast) aren't running it and the "dumb" ones are (i.e. from the South). Unfortunately for Chrissy, that opinion isn't very popular -- neither is he.

It is hilarious that he's sick of rich guys running the world from their ranches. As if Kerry would have been any better!

This clown is just another person ruled by his prejudices -- nothing more. We have them in the North -- you have them in the South.

Even given all that, the fact that this complete idiot thinks that the proper role for ANY President of the United States is on the street corner answering questions....?

I stopped watching Sissy Chrissy's show right around impeachment, but I had no idea how stupid he is.

Either that or drunk.

Does he forget that the Governor and Mayor did too little too late? I still fail to see how it's all Bush's fault.

Now, now... when David Gregory called in to Imus that time all f'ed up I do believe he was stoned on hash, not drunk on alcohol.

I remember during the 2004 election campaign, Chrissy dissed everyone who lived below the Mason-Dixon line as being of subnormal intelligence. He made statements to that effect, as if they were accepted fact. None of his sycophant "panelists" every called him on it. That was when I stopped watching him.

He is a low-self-esteem elitist.

Can we say he carries an awful lot of prejudices around in his head.
