Hu Jintao's predecessor, Jiang Zemin, had greater support from the military for his more laissez-faire economic policies and his modernization of the Chinese military. There were far more press and internet freedoms under Jiang Zemin than under current president Hu Jintao.

In the last half century of Chinese history, the Chinese military has always been a source of right-wing influence. When the Chinese military was weakened during the 1960s, China descended into a leftist hellhole called the Cultural Revolution. By mid-1970s, troops had to be called to end that disaster.

The tensions between the Chinese military and Hu Jintao have to do with the fact that the Chinese military can see through Hu Jintao's Communist tendencies, and is suspicious of his agenda to "reinvigorate socialist ideals" in the country. And also because under Jiang Zemin, the Chinese military had greater autonomy in both its leadership and its funding practices.

When we purchase items listed as "Made in (red) China" we feed the communist beast making it bolder and bolder.

Correct. Good posts. One of my asian friends was in the red guard in her youth as was everyone in her area and was deeply ashamed of it. One of the few things she spoke of with any cheer over the period was that the majority of the military held themselves aloof and curtailed some excesses, eg mking it plain to some fanatical cadre leaders that 'No, the army will not move out of your way so you can attack Hong Kong,' The PLA is a very cool and pragmatic organisation.

Yeah and I've seen these so-called "bad guys" lately and, truthfully, they seem like a pretty o.k. lot. It just takes a friendly person like Dianne "and the americans would say" Sawyer to show the warmth and loving spirit of a Bashyrkidsheadin Bashar, or Kim Mentally Ill Sung.

Bashar, what a delightful and wonderful sense of humor the man has! And didn't he promise he would get back to bubbling Diane about that little matter of all those so-called political prisoners and clear that misunderstanding up? "What good is democracy if you are dead?" he mused.

No threat there. He's only bankrolled Hezbollah and Hamas to the tune of -----dollars.

Dianne Sawyer. You go girl. You go to he--.

If we don't win the Terror War and come out of stronger, the Chinese will know they have us, having woven their oil noose around us while we dilly dally about wanting to win and the Democrats and our intellectuals join our enemies.

The same thing is happening in Russia sans Vladimir Putin. Yeltsin gave the military free reign, while Putin wants to control it.

The four components of the energy noose...

1. Russia/"Ex" USSR

2. Red China

3. Latin American commies

4. Islamofascist/Arab Socialist regimes

The problem is that all of these countries are working together to monopolize energy around the world, and all are engaged in massive military buildups (even Russia and the former Soviet states are)

And we have a CBO and an Administration that are still living in the pre-9/11 dream world that we can get by with a 200 ship navy. Hence the continued quest for "peace dividends" even though we are at war....and thus the continued unilateral strategic reductions.

And yet the Russians think that we are in an arms race with them (They are using it as a justification for their rapid military buildup)

China never did anything to threaten the west(ern) world

Hello, remember a little thing called the Korean War that China illegally butted into and INVADED and aided and abetted a criminal aggressor? 54,000 U.S. deaths and 103,000 casualties. Remember Vietnam? Again China 58,209 lives, and 35,000 casualties.

China bears full complicity for both attacks on the West, and the casualties. The Bill is mounting against China.

And then there is China's scofflawism on intellectually property. Pretending they never heard of patents or copyrights. Stealing hundreds of billions of royalties annually. And then there are your (presumably you are Chinese) criminal spy operations...stealing all the technology that you can't and haven't produced yourselves because your society is still communist, and but for the foreign enclaves, is wholly inimical to true free enterprise and individual innovation.

Then there is your massive buildup of your armed forces in totaly secrecy, excepting the Navy which you are having a hard time concealing. And it doesn't help that Hu Jintau openly declared the ambition to have a Blue Water Navy who's only conceivable purpose is to attack the United States.

And then there is your constant agitation to invade the free peoples of Taiwan. An independent...and democratic... nation. One that does not threaten Mainland China.

And then there are the constant imprecations and threats fuming selpuchrally from your media against Japan, and your thinly-disguised Party fronts staging anti-Japanese 'demonstrations.'

And now China is grasping with evil claws at the U.S. itself, with its Panama Canal Zone bribery, and its Venezuelan Dictator that it is propping up...and urging to get armed to the teeth.

No, you don't threaten anybody. Why should we feel threatened?

Defense Minster Chi Haotian (Jonathan Utz/AFP/Getty Images)

War Is Not Far from Us and Is the Midwife of the Chinese Century

Leading CCP official argues for exterminating U.S. population

Chi Haotian: " The United States, unlike Russia and Japan, has never occupied and hurt China, and also assisted China in its battle against the Japanese. But, it will certainly be an obstruction, and the biggest obstruction! In the long run, the relationship of China and the United States is one of a life-and-death struggle.

One time, some Americans came to visit and tried to convince us that the relationship between China and United States is one of interdependence. Comrade Xiaoping replied in a polite manner: “Go tell your government, China and the United States do not have such a relationship that is interdependent and mutually reliant.” Actually, Comrade Xiaoping was being too polite, he could have been more frank, “The relationship between China and United States is one of a life-and-death struggle.” Of course, right now it is not the time to openly break up with them yet. Our reform and opening to the outside world still rely on their capital and technology, we still need America."

It would seem that your propaganda is disconnected from the reality of what your Party acknowledges. The U.S. did nothing to harm China. But the reverse is not true.

And we ARE keeping score. And don't for a second imagine you will prevail.

kactus, welcome and thanks. Ping to Houston Area Texans:

"We live in a border town and the railroad is looking to get options for an easement. A neighbor called and enlightened us saying get on the computer and look up things like corridor, Punta Colonet, containers, trucks, deep sea port, Project Thomas. Different combinations of words bring up different articles.

In a nutshell, Chinese $$$ is backing the new deep sea port to rival Long Beach on Baja. They are also backing the railroad which is part of CANAMEX Corridor running continuously from Mexico to Canada. The corridor will be used to carry millions and millions of containers full of "Asian" goods.

It looks to me like governors of the various states are working in concert to bring this corridor through their states and are doing it mainly by executive orders. Somehow, we the people are not part of the process.

The TransTexas Corridor will be bringing goods from other ports financed by the same $$$ source but from ports on mainland Mexico."

MOVE TO IMPEACH, NOW!

Taiwan is the canary in the coal mine for when China decides to assert dominance in East Asia.

China won't have to invade, just have an endless series of naval maneuvers with live rocket tests that will scare off outside trade.
