A few years ago some liberal (I forget who) presented what he contended was conclusive proof that no incidents of spitting on troops had occurred in the Viet Nam era. It was a magazine article type thing. The contention got picked up and was widely reported.

Within days multiple firsthand accounts disproved the claim. But it seems the original story developed a life of its own, as so many erroneous stories do, and has found a comfy home in the peabrain of Keith Olbermann.

Olbermann would not take the word of a Vite vet who was spit upon unless the soldier also provided DNA evidence of 40 yr old saliva on his uniform and had it matched to an admitted war protester.

For me, I still remember a crowd of hairy screaming protesters who had group of Navy recruiters up on a table at the "hub" (student union) at PSU in 1968.
