Because. We're "civilized" and we don't do that kind of thing. Just because they'll KILL you to enforce their unConstitutional edicts is, apparently, not enough reason to kill them first.
Watch.... there won't be so much as a whimper over this one. Nor the next one. Nor the next. There might be angry phone calls or hastily scribbled letters to uncaring politicians. There might even be a mock trial or two in which if you dare mutter the word "Constitution" during testimony it will be cause enough for you to be held in "contempt of court".
And the abuses will continue...

People do die because of these laws. They are generally unarmed and too old to run or too sick to fight or too incapacitated in any number of ways when attacked by a thug or goon intent on mischief.
