A Gay Old Song Replayed Under The Big Tarnished Dome

So far, 2007 is only about a month old and I’m not impressed. The New England Patriots were needlessly knocked out of Super Bowl contention and denied a rematch with their old Super Bowl adversary, the Chicago Bears of 20 years before, and gays and their liberal minions are back ranting in the Capitol for this new session like Robins chirping in a new Spring. Out with the Patriots and in with the gays. I remember when I was a kid, I liked to hang off the side of my bed upside down. Now, decades later, I am sitting upright in a chair but I’m still getting the same view.

Yes, without the use of crystal balls or tealeaves, our prediction from the last “Civil Unions” debacle has sadly come to fruition. Gay marriage is now an issue. Governor Rell has said she will veto any gay marriage bill that comes across her desk in this now veto-proof session. That’s nice. Indulge me in a brief euphoric moment of “coulda shoulda woulda,” but our toe in the water, finger in the air, “pink dog” Republican Governor should have at least attempted a veto on civil unions, the kid brother of gay marriage. But now having done damage, the Governor is taking a stand, kind of like when President Bush said the campaign finance reform bill was unconstitutional, just before he signed it into law. I guess you could call that “Deja Without A View.” But that’s OK, Governor, it’s the thought that counts. Now that the horses are out, please do close the barn door.

Only in “Corrupticut” could two openly gay co-Chairs head a committee to decide on gay marriage. Rest assured, if two Catholic Deacons chaired the alleged “Judiciary” Committee, Senator Andrew McDonald and Representative Michael Lawlor would be screaming bloody murder at the heinous conflict of interest. But here, in the Capitol of the Democrat-dominated version of God’s Forgotten Little Acre, the in-your-face double standard doesn’t even warrant a blink. They say the two things you would never want to see made are sausage and law. Maybe not, but I have eaten sausage, and my well experienced taste buds have me pretty convinced that more than one ingredient is used in the recipe.

Kudos to both Brian Brown, head of the Family Institute Of Connecticut, and Senate Minority Leader Louis DeLuca for holding the opposition’s feet to the fire and challenging them to put their money where their mouths are. Mr. Brown is calling for a constitutional amendment to protect traditional marriage and Senator DeLuca is calling for a non-binding referendum, just to show the opposition what the people think. But the opposition doesn’t care what the people think. The opposition doesn’t care about the states, including liberal Oregon, that have had successful referendums against gay marriage. These are the same folks who take their issues to the judicial branch when they know they will lose in the legislative branch. They’re oppressive tyrants and gutless cowards, but their not stupid people. They know they do not speak for the majority.

Anne Stanback of “Love Makes A Family” claims that gay marriage does not endanger the institution of marriage. Yes, I have heard all the arguments before, cohabitation, divorce, infidelity, abuse, etc.. All of those are facts, but why make it worse? Being gay is not necessarily synonymous with being committed, and Massachusetts, our northerly neighbor and another “state of confusion,” now has the gay divorces to prove it. Stanley Kurtz of the Hudson Institute, Hoover Institution and National Review has written extensively on the damage gay marriage has done to children in Scandinavia, and he has also shown where gay marriage in Scandinavia has also become an open door for polygamy and polyamory. Those are facts that many gay proponents found hilariously funny a few years back when they were also cited by Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia and former US Senator (R-PA) Rick Santorum.
