I agree he will have to answer the question, but a deferrment is not draft evasion. By the way, I agree that I don't think it will be an issue.

I don't know the details, but from what I read on here last night, it looks like he was clerking for a judge (don't know which level) and the judge asked for his deferement.

Hey 51! Good to "see" you. It's interesting that our friend is not being bashed as much as I thought. And Newt's FR ratings have gone up too. A Rudy/Newt or Newt/Rudy would be a terrific ticket. With Newt in the game, they'd kick anti-war, tax and spend, liberal butt big time.

Code? I thought he was very articulate...and clean.
Going after the drug dealers and terrorists instead of the maid or dishwasher made sense to me.....and what's wrong with requiring those who seek citizenship to read and speak english and know some American History?

I haven't seen any evidence of the voting record you think exists, if that's what you mean.

Boy, he calls them as he sees them! Good for him. Maybe some of this PC-ness will become a thing of the past in his administration.

Rudy was tested and was supurb on 9/11. College deferments won't make a bit of difference. I doubt it. It is a question he'll have to answer.

Full-disclosure here: My first pick is Mitt at this juncture, but my number two pick is Rudy. Yes, he is deeply flawed on policy, but at this point in our history I feel that we need a Winston Churchill caliber president and I see this in Rudy. To win me over, he has to convince me that he will be rock solid on judges and that he will not trick us and promote liberal policies.

My wife is a HUGE fan of Rudy. He is the only person he doesn't care about when I list the RINO tendencies. Is your wife a guy?

Yes, but Evie spoke of requiring they be worn. That's simply not defensible, even with a shabby sarcasm tag glued on.
I wouldn't want them to wear it. I'd rather not know about their perversion.
Unfortunately many homosexuals want to push it in our face.
To: Jim Robinson
He says he's against gay marriage, but pro "gay rights." Again, double talk. You won't find mention of any special rights for homosexuals anywhere in the founding documents.I didn't hear him say anything about "special" rights for homosexuals. He is for civil unions...so what? He said "MARRIAGE IS BETWEEN A MAN AND A WOMAN" and that puts that argument to rest.

Sean isn't a sellout, he is a smart, pragmatic conservative that understands political realities and knows Rudy is not the liberal devil many falsely make him out to be.

Really?
If I'm pretty sure that cows fly, does it make it so?
To: Rex Anderson
I'm not worried.
Free Republic is a great forum for conservatives to speak out and denounce liberalism. My objective is to spread the truth and expose liberal candidates like Rudy Giuliani for their anti-constitutional agenda. The term "double-talk" was used tonight in reference to Rudy`s rhetorical blatherings on H&C. Right on the mark.
The enemy is liberalism. Not conservatism.

Rudolph Giuliani (R-NY) (5/28/44) - Did not serve; received a deferment in 1968 for a clerkship with a United States District Court judge. Got a letter from the judge to sustain this deferment, after receiving student deferments for college and law school.
and
Former mayor Rudy Giuliani
Draft Status: Special deferment via federal-judge clerkship.
Wartime Activities: A 1968 NYU Law grad, Giuliani went to work for the U.S. Attorneys Office in 1970.

My interest is mostly curiosity. I guess if a judge asks, the local board complies. As I noted earlier, it's not an issue this election.
As an aside, one of the rare occasions I watch TV rather than read transcripts. He came off pretty well tonight. Admittedly with a friendly interrogator. My guess, he would have eaten Alan up alive.
