I think the best you can hope for is a sincere position that it's a state an local rather than federal issue, recognition that it's an individual not collective right, and conservative judges. Of course Alan Dershowitz and Lawerence Tribe take the first two positions, and they'd regulate the heck out of individual ownership. In fairness, the President's constituency isn't the same as a mayors, but he's got explanations to make on this and other issues.
