Possible Merger of NEA and "Moderate" Churches
EthicsDaily.com ^ | February 5, 2007 | Bob Allen

The head of the nation's largest teacher union hailed a summit meeting for clergy and educators initiated by the Baptist Center for Ethics an historic first step toward building bridges between public schools and people of faith...."Many of you in your pulpits, sometimes your greatest detractors may be your board of trustees or your deacons," Weaver addressed ministers. "What we are saying is if in fact we can help you, select some of us to be on your deacon board or trustee board. We will solicit you, perhaps, to run for school board. We will solicit you to help with members of Congress."

Such a merger would disqualify any church from receiving God's blessing.

Sounds like they may be endangering their tax exempt status too. Hey IRS, check it out.

As the primary source of indoctrination of children, the Tax-funded, Union-run Government School IS THE STATE CHURCH!

Here are the precepts of the state religion, to which some Freepers also ascribe.

. Everything came from nothing out of nowhere for no apparent reason.

. Life is just a curious side-effect of an unknowing, uncaring cosmos.

. When you die, you are just so much compost.

. The best thing you can hope for is a life of self-gratification and a painless extinction.

This is the nihilistic, hedonistic creed being taught in the American State Church.

If children come out of this system with any vision, or any hope, or any faith whatsoever, it is in SPITE of the system and certainly NOT because of it.

And I'm gonna let you all in on a little secret.

No matter how much money you give the State Church, it will never, never, EVER be enough.

.

Sick Sick Sick! The "Separation" rant these leftists and others whine about constantly, only applies of course, to the actually dumbies who believe the Bible in its entirety. You know, us knuckledraggers who just aren't "enlightened" enough to be lieberals yet.

I hope people on the thread will get this information around to others. This article really demonstrates that the schools, NEA, "moderate" churches are all part of a liberal "popular front."

"In Pakistan, the United States is deeply concerned with the madrassahs, that is, the private fundamentalist Islamist schools. Here we have so-called Christian academies and home schooling, our own form of madrassahs." - Jim Winkler, General Secretary of the United Methodist General Board of Church and Society

Yup, liberal "popular front" proponent Jim Winkler will be liking this NEA merger.

Of course, any leftist so called Christian organization would hustle the NEA and their pacifist socialist agendas when it comes to a 50 state curriculum. There is no compromise with home schooling, the need for more private schools and charter schools, vouchers, and no compromise with states' righters who want curriculum that is more classical, conservative and American tradition-sided. Barry Lynn does not represent 80 million Evangelicals. Neither does the NEA. And I have been teaching for 45 years; even led tours for the NEA but have resigned my life membership since they actually undermine America on every one of its curriculum agendas.

What was it Lenin said about public education? Something like "Give me your children for five years in a public school and you'll never get them back."

IIRC the Jesuits used to say something like that (but more benevolent) back in antiquity.

I don't think it is insanity - it is coldly calculated to strengthen the hand of the Gramscian left.

Please educate me. ;)

In return Weaver is looking to have NEA members placed on boards of deacons and elders (the church ruling bodies) and to have them lobby Congress and other legislatures with the NEA to get more money and power.

So I suppose we're not to put men of great faith and service on our elder boards anymore, but rather only those that fit a union agenda. Unbelievable.

Gramsci was an Italian Marxist who deveolped a variant on Marist thought sometimes referred to as "cultural Marxism". Cultural Marxism was the ideology of the New Left in the 60's and is embodied in what most people know today as "political correctness". The Lind article sums it up pretty well - the Wiki entry is only good for some general background.

"Many of you in your pulpits, sometimes your greatest detractors may be your board of trustees or your deacons," Weaver addressed ministers.

Yup. That's the problem in the liberal churces, alright -- all those uppity people in the pews, especially the trustees and deacons. Just get rid of the laity, except for their money of course, and let the clergy concentrate full time on politics. That's the ticket.

I think you have it. Pastors would then be freed to spend their time as field operatives for the DNC and the NEA. Good plan ;-)

NEA desires nothing more than to have homosexual/transgender issues in the public school system.

NEA has financed this agenda along with supporting it with PR.

NEA supports universal preschool. The more unionized teachers the better to promote their political/social agendas.

NEA has (in the past)stepped outside the realm of education and CALLED for the boycot of a popular box store.

INTERESTING how NEA has a page regarding IDEA '97 on it's website. How long has that been posted??????
