I like Newt but I think he's unelectable in either spot. Make him Rudy's Karl Rove -- that's where Newt can shine: the idea guy and the guy who can help translate things into political nuggets.

As for Rudy: he's clearly the most able "leader" in the field. He's proven his leadership ability in the massive turnaround of NYC and then the personal fortitude and bravery around 9-11. Imagine a president who could give a press conference every day without worry that he'll screw it up or flub a talking point.

While I would never ever ever "hope" for this: with the Dems swinging to retreat, imagine if there is another terrorist attack on our soil between now and election 2008. Shrillery and the rest would be up the creek without a paddle -- and people would be begging for a strong leader to take over the leadership RESPONSILITIES on the War on Terror that has the Dems so terrified at the prospect.

People don't vote for the VP....but Newt on the ticket..especially if Rudy announces well before the convention that he ask asked Newt, and Newt has accepted, will energize the social conservative base in the party.
