I see your point, but why was the question remotely necessary in the first place. As another poster suggested, who claims that bad things can't happen to believing people?

I agree, maybe she was looking for him to give a positive message and some reason to the others effected by this.
I have heard the same type of questions after these type of events, "why did God allow this", the pastor put it in perspective.

Of course it did.
But that was not the intention of the interviewer. She expected the line of questioning to develop the point that "You, reverend, are a schmuck, at best."
And the concept that it did no such thing no doubt has still not entered into her cotton-fluff-filled head.

You are the first one here to speak what my thoughts were. Yes, the question was very secular but maybe the Holy Spirit brought it up so as the Minister would relay the meaning of "faith" to a large audience.
