The Queen Mary 2, the largest cruise liner ever built, will pass under the Golden Gate Bridge for the first time Sunday.
The famous vessel will be in port at Pier 27 Monday during its 26th day of an around-the-world-in-80 days tour.
The ship is 1-thousand-132-feet long, and its 17 decks equal the height of a 23-story building. The ship is only 118 feet shorter than the Empire State Building.
The Queen Mary 2 has been praised as a marvel of traditional cruising melded with the most modern technology available since it went into service in 2004. It has the largest ballroom at sea, and the only planetarium at sea.
The cheapest price for the complete 80-day journey is about $21,200 -- but that's for the smallest cabin, with no windows, near the bottom of the ship. The best suite on the ship for the entire trek runs nearly $184,400.

The QM2...one of the few queens that has a voice deeper than Harvey Fierstein's.

Someone should put one of these on the hull, just slightly above the water line... :)

The Queen Mary has been visiting San Francisco for 50 years, his parents named him "Mark".

My best regards to that upcoming adventure! I once had the chance to tour the engine room on the older QM at Long Beach, awesome amount of machinery.
I say the heck with what it costs, its the fact that a person can do it, so many just give up on their dreams, this is the result of our culture I suppose or our choices of leadership.

I'd go watch but there is a pre-pre-pre game hype for the Superbowl that I want to see.

As fun as being on a cruise ship was...... I think 80 days would have be blubbering for land like a big baby.

It appears to me that the QM2's design owes much to the development of ultra large containerships. And that stern...

Yep. That about right for the cruise I could afford. Beach chairs an friends on the shady side, cooler with beer, portable CD player. When the sun comes around to the shady side, or the wind gets too cold, time to up anchor and head for the parking lot and home.

"The best suite on the ship for the entire trek runs nearly $184,400." Is that double occupancy? I need to know for my budget.
Do I write a check for $184,000 or $368,000?
