The only thing I regret is that it's quite possible that definitive evidence one way or another about what's causing our recent warming may not be found until Al Gore and his U.N. poobah buddies and the hysterical ninnies who fawn over them have already cooled off in their graves. It would be sweet to see all those guys and gals humiliated in the public square by some good old-fashioned scientific evidence before they shuffle off this mortal coil.

Unfortunately, it's more likely that the majority will ever see Gore and the other warmists as being wrong.

If temperatures started to reverse, even as early as next year, the warmists would claim credit; saying that because they rang the alarm bells, people started to take actions to fight climate change. It won't matter how symbolic or ineffective (or even counterproductive)these "actions" are; nor will it matter how much technological change would have taken place regardless of the GW scare.

Second, cognitive dissonance on a mass scale will come into play. Watermelons (green on the outside, red in the middle) still haven't acknowledged how wrong their bad ideas of the 1970's and 1980's were (Silent Spring, Population Bomb, etc.) Nor have they acknowledge the horrific harm these bad ideas caused (e.g. 50 million unnecessary deaths from malaria, as a direct result of the ban on DDT). Not only will they not admit that they were wrong -- they will honestly believe that they weren't. Such is the power of cognitive dissonance.

Finally, don't expect the MSM to hold anyone to account. They're as culpable for the fraud as anyone.

The full article is well worth reading and keeping handy - there's a pdf version. Singer has been one of my favorite authorities about this, and he's on target with this. The global warming crowd wants these inconvenient temperature cycles to go away, but it is too clear to erase.
