Out of Your Mind err...... On Your Mind Column

For all you global warming cynics out there, I’ve got a cerebral 2-by-4: Looking at your thermometer and seeing a cold temperature does not mean global warming is a misconception.

And here’s another tidbit: It isn’t President Bush’s fault either, although his leadership in this matter is abysmal. It is every single one of us — add another billion humans every 10 years — collectively polluting the finite atmosphere and not caring enough to clean up our act.

Global warming is about extremes And for all you folks that continue to make snide remarks about Al Gore, why don’t you read his books or watch his “An Inconvenient Truth” documentary? Or check out the documentary “Who Killed the Electric Car?”

But it’s easier to label someone and thereby dismiss him and his point of view than to try to actually learn something. I’m worried, and you can bet I’m paying attention.

The 20th century was a time of fossil fuel industry. For the 21st century, Al Gore is right: We are entering the time of consequences for the previous century of pollution.

These unsigned call in diatribes are a hoot! This is a tame one to most.

Well, lest the greenpissing author continue polluting the atmosphere, it ought to be equipped with a plug, like a sink. Make it two plugs, one on the top.

Would you rather live in a world that is cooling? There isn't a balance point that can be maintained indefinitely. We are either warming or we are cooling.

You assume that man is apart from nature and if man did not exist, nature would be in perfect harmony. This self loathing that people have for mankind, imagining that any impact man has on nature must be detrimental and harmful is such a bizarre aspect. We're searching franticly for sticks to beat ourselves with. It is madness.

I will admit that clear cutting forests and dumping poisons in our air and water is downright stupid and detrimental. If you note that this has been much reduced under (Nixon's) EPA and we are much more conscious about what we put on our land an in our streams. We adapted, because we saw what we were doing was not conducive to our survival. Co2 is plant food, our forests in the USA and in Europe are far larger and extensive than they were just 10 years ago. It's not poisonous, it's plant food.

We are already making progress in lessening the input of carbon into the environment. Starting with our history of burning wood and peat to cleaner coal, to oil then natural gas and eventually hydrogen. We are already heading in the direction everyone is screaming about. Now if we start replacing our coal generated electricity with zero carbon producing nuclear plants, we will get there and y'all can stop screaming "are we there yet??".

Even if we are indeed accelerating warming by a fraction, why must all of the impacts be counted on the negative side of the tally?

If our scientists believe they have the model perfected to predict our climate, I guess they can stop their screaming and devote their attention to other problems now. Lets devote all of those research grants to other problems of greater importance.

What's that you say? It's not perfected? Then what possible reason could you have for shutting down alternative points of view on our climate modeling? Why the recent IPCC summary claim of 90% probability that we're all going to die from global warming? (OK they didn't say THAT) Why the reference to non believing climatologists as "deniers" associating them with the Holocaust deniers? Why the frantic hysteria?

Why waste it? Go to the source link and put a reply to him in the "On Your Mind Column." They take emails as well as phone calls.

This person really doesn't deserve a response, but I'll give him/her one. The latest statistics on global warming: if we were to join the Kyoto accord (China, India and the U.S.) and given all the measures proposed (which are currently none); then by the year 2050, our climate temperature drop will be approximately 0.07%. In the meantime, do some research. There's plenty out there. I found in my research that every 30 years, the panic hits the fan: 1954-1976...Global cooling. 1929-1969....Global warming. 1895-1932 - Global cooling. You can decide what you like; however, the latest rage about global warming is directed by the United Nations. It's about socialism. It's about destroying not only big business, but the U.S. in particular. The U.S. is one of the cleanest industrialized nations in the world. The wealth of this country has left open the doors for alternative fuels; cleaner air; cleaner emissions. If we join the Kyoto treaty, we will as a nation be paying trillions of dollars and we will lose our independence, our freedom, each family will pay $2,000 a year, we will pay taxes on having cars, we probably won't be able to grill our hamburgers anymore, we will pay through the nose for our food supplies, heating, cooling, dryers, and clothing. Do some research for yourself. Then ask: after all this fear mongering that the media is pushing at us, after France's Chiraq's threat to charge us carbon taxes if we don't join the treaty, what exactly is being proposed by the U.N and the Kyoto treaty? Oh, the exact paper isn't due out until June. Just drag your feet and find out all sides of the story before you jump in the muck.

Allow me to acquiesce and stipulate to a couple of things (even if I don't actually believe them):

1. Global Warming is real

2. Humans cause it

I......don't......care.

There are numerous threats to my well-being directly or indirectly created by humans, either individually (e.g. homicide) or collectively (e.g. faith-based terror).

The prospect of growing coconuts in Iowa does not inspire insomnia.

Barbara Boxer has decreed that there will be no debate. She's the commissar who will dictate what we do. do you think that we could get Hillary to scream at her that we are Americans and we have a right to debate?

Since I believe the Earth has "reinvented" itself numerous times since the beginning of time..this maybe just more evidence that mankind thinks they can rule nature.

Myself, I think it's more political-speak..

I've read the book and seen the films. There is only one conclusion that stares us in the face: to reduce population and thus pollution, we must shoot the liberals. As the author says, "Global warming is about extremes." /sarc.

no, - no, - no, - not shoot them lest we offend their gun control sensibilities. We take them to the very centers the deepest and darkest recesses of various Jungles/Rainforest's to commune with nature.. ...
....
.......
........
..........AND LEAVE THEM ALL THERE BUCK NAKED!

now isn't that much more metrocompasionate that shooting.
