TURKEY: ROW OVER POLICE POSING WITH SUSPECT IN JOURNALIST'S MURDER

Istanbul, 2 Feb. (AKI) - A storm has broken out in Turkey over video images showing police posing with the alleged killer of an ethnic Armenian journalist while he holds a Turkish flag. The footage broadcast by the private TGRT television channel, shows police giving the 17-year-old ultra-nationalist suspect, Ogun Samast what a newspaper denounced as "hero treatment". Other newspapers ran outraged headlines including "Worse than the Assassination", and "Hand in Hand with the Killer".

Samast is charged with killing Hrant Dink, who had angered Turkish nationalists with repeated assertions that the mass killings of Armenians during the ealy 20th century was genocide - a claim which is regarded as a crime in Turkey. Human rights activists have alleged that Dink's murder was plotted by ultra-nationalists supported by elements within the police, the bureaucracy and the military. The images have added ammunition to those who claim some officials may have instigated or even colluded in the planning of Dink's murder. On Friday a police spokesman, Ismail Caliskan said an invistigation had been launched into the incident and "the faulty personnel would be punished whatever their rank may be."

Tens of thousands of people marched at Dink's funeral in Istanbul, many of them chanting for Turkey to abolish a repressive article in the penal code used against many intellectuals, including Dink and Nobel-prize winning Turkish author Orhan Pamuk, who have spoken on the controverial topic of the Armenian massacre.

It's no fun to be black in the US, but least of all in some states like Lousiana.

I'm gonna check with my buddy Marlon on that, because he appears to be doing quite well...what with his recent promotion and all.

No problem getting promotions for Turks of Armenian origin in many parts of Turkey either.

Explain racial profiling as it relates to black males in the US and how it varies in intensity as you move your pointer around the US map. Ask Marlon.

Anyway, no apologies, no excuses. It is what it is, and too bad, we'll be spending countless billions to fight inadvertantly US armed PKK terrorists for the forseeable future, instead of spending that money on education.

You should stick to talking about Turkey. You don't know anything about America and it just makes you look stupid when you misdescribe her.

All I'm saying is that there are provinces in Turkey where certain minorities have a harder time than others. Same as here in the US.
