LADY LAKE, Florida (CNN) -- Deadly storms swept across central Florida on Friday morning, damaging homes, toppling trees and sending trucks careening off Interstate 4, police said.
The Lake County Sheriff's Office said there were "several" fatalities in Lady Lake, where at least two mobile home parks were hit. Authorities could not say how many deaths there were.

I can't imagine it Dita. We were very relieved to hear from family. It was just south of them. Prayers for the people who were in the path of this storm.
I CANNOT imagine winds that strong -- 150MPH!!!; the thought terrifies me. And the strongest structures become toys in the path of the tornado. Stay safe, SE Mom!!
The church looks like an Irish castle, a fortress!! Wind that could level something like that has got to be supernatural... A sign?
I am so glad you heard from family, GeeBee. I am staying tuned for info... The Dems will try to attack Jeb on this, I am sure.
Ummm ... didn't this just happen this morning??
Can't be too soon to start asking for government handouts.
The reporter asked him what needs to be done for the people who were affected.
He first mentioned that Gov. Crist needs to hurry to do what he can to help them.
Then he rambled incoherently for a few minutes about how family and friends need to come help out (which is a good idea, but his incoherence probably didn't get the message through)...
Because then, he said that there is a lot of damage but not NEARLY what a hurricane causes and "everyone knows what happened here in Florida in 2004, and 2005 in New Orleans, FEMA was awful and let everyone down"...continued on a rant about the old FEMA..but he says they will be ready NOW for a hurricane.
The reporter had to get him BACK to talking about today's damage.
He started talking about the state and Federal help that will come and "fix these people's lives".
I can't possibly type it in a way to convey how totally uninformed he sounded..plus, the camera was following him through the crowd, on the way to where the reporter was...and he was laughing the whole way, until he got to her...and then you would have thought 9/11 happened again...ugh
I am so relieved for you now that you've heard from your daughter, TOF!!!!!
well there's a good why to turn people off
Oh wow.. that is built of stone
Reminds me of a joke: What do a redneck divorce and a tornado have in common? Somebody's losing a trailer.
All OK in Orlando, lots of rain, some wind--
Except for this onslaught, of wicked tornadoes---it's really been a glorious winter--in Florida--NO AC BILLS (to speak of)--and virtually NO heating bills.
Thank God we don't live in Louisiana---with--that incompetent Nagan--and--"what's er name" Governator!!
The church on that webpage looks like a generic picture of a photogenic church somewhere and is not the church that was destroyed.
Nothing supernatural going on - the destructive potential of winds increases with the SQUARE of the wind speed - 200 mph winds have 4 times the destructive power of 100 mph winds.
A wide variety of tornadoes have done more damage than this. Including ripping up road pavement and leaving perfectly bare house foundations with no part of the house within half a mile.
Thanks for the report on Orlando. I have a sister there.
Oh, yeah...I knew when I saw Sen. Nelson walking towards the reporter...that this was going to be all about how the FED gov needs to step up and help these people...
And of course get in jabs about Katrina.
But, the FIRST person to say anything was a victim interviewed early this morning..that first blamed the tornado on global warming...and then proceeded to b!itch about not getting any help from the government!!! LOL
I saw that. Had the same reaction.
Thanks! My daughter surprised me and walked in my front door about an hour ago!
CNN just showed an interview with a sheriff in Volusia county that suggested that 13 people died there, and they are still looking for two or three others.
Oh, wonderful.
I am sure that was a great surprise!
And thanks for caring and inquiring about me :)
