Until our existence as a nation is threatened, I don't think there will be enough consensus to fight and win the WOT. It will take a handful of 9/11's. The irony is that the safer we feel from attack, the less seriously we take terrorism.

What we have now isn't a war, it isn't even, with the exception of air travel, inconvenient.

Oliver North bump! He is ALWAYS a great read.

He sure nailed Miss Jane. Too bad more people don't remember her idiocy during the Vietnam war.

"Among them was left-wing Rep. John Conyers, D-Mich., whose message was the only one that really mattered: "The founders of our country gave our Congress the power of the purse because they envisioned a scenario exactly like we find ourselves in today," he told the thinning crowd."

I could apply that to the state of public education.

Colonel North understands what's going on:

The purveyors of pessimism on the Potomac are little different from the transmitters of trepidation on the Thames. In both places powerful people ignore good news, accentuate the bad and seek to reap political advantage from the situation.

..And so did this guy:

"The world is a dangerous place to live not because of the people who are evil, but because of the people who don't do anything about it." --Albert Einstein

Worse, leaders in both nations seem unable unwilling to mobilize their countrymen to the challenge of fighting radical Islamic extremists who are literally dying to kill us.

I beg to differ. North should have written "Leaders in both nations are unwilling to tell their countrymen in plain and simple terms about the extreme danger posed by Islamists who want to destroy us."

How can you mobilize when most people don't believe we have an enemy.

Case in point: Last week the much maligned Iraqi Army -- trained, equipped and advised by the U.S. military -- inflicted a stunning defeat on a well-armed Shia militia in a pitched battle.

The Iraqis were actually thrown back and required re-enforcement from an Iraqi special forces squad, and American troops, artillery, and air support before the battle could be won. They are not yet ready for prime time.
