Talent was probably my favorite senator, and the ideal of what a politician ought to be. Unassuming, humble, and fully engaged in the business of serving those he represented without fanfare or grandstanding. And he was unafraid to defend difficult causes or, occasionally, wander outside the mainstream (such as his quest against Sickle Cell). Excellent senator and, in my opinion, are most significant loss of the midterms.
Wow, I'm impressed. Bopp's a good man...maybe Romney isn't the shallow, craven phony so many have implied he is.
I'm lookin' for a conservative Pubbie who can defeat McCain, Giuliani and then Hitliary.
Who knows, maybe it's Mitt?

When Claire was beating him, he whined about how he always worked with the Dims and such. Conservatives saw that as a sign of weakness and was turned off.
I totally agree and I was depressed for a month after he lost.

There is plenty of evidence the Dems fear Romney, and none that they relish his nomination. If you have evidence, provide it (you can't).
First, the dem's know that there is no way in the world they lose Massachusetts in a federal election.
(1) No winning GOP scenario requires MA. (2) Neighboring NH is a possible Romney pick up. (3) DH doesn't win CA, does he?
Second, the dem's know that there is no way they can win Idaho and Utah, the two states with the biggest per capita Mormon population.
If you wanted a candidate's religion to pick up states, you would support the catholic Guiliani. Romney's religion doesn't have any electoral advantage, neither does DH's.
Third, many conservatives won't vote for a new england rino.
Conservatives voted for Bush, who has no position more conservative than Romney. In November conservatives aren't going to vote for Hillary. The New England geography is an advantage, because the swing states are in the North, and share much of MA's political temperment.
Fourth, some people will not vote for him simply because they consider the Mormon church to be a cult.
That Romney is Mormon is not news. Everybody has already taken this into account.
It's time to look beyond the big three being pushed by the LSM.

It is? Aside from the fact that DH is a (big spending, protectionist) conservative, could you provide a shred of evidence that he would be a strong GOP general election candidate?
Ann Coulter on O'Reilly last night said Romney is her favorite Republican candidate. She thought it was a plus that he was able to "trick" voters in a blue state to vote for him. She also pointed out that he doesn't have the baggage McCain and Guiliani have in terms of their personal lives. Newt, she says, may not have the organizational skills to be president.
I think Romney is a very interesting candidate with a lot of potential. I think with his smarts (Harvard law and business degrees), his looks, and his managerial ability he could be a formidable candidate. He needs to get some media face time. Right now Hillary, Obama, and Biden are sucking up all the oxygen.
Hunter is a glum nonentity, a no-name, back bencher who has zero chance of winning in the general election. Chris Matthews easily manhandled him in an interview I saw. He left Hunter flat footed and sputtering and then cut him off. Sorry, this guy just doesn't have it. I want someone smart, quick-witted, intelligent, articulate and not connected with Washington.
Leavitt is one of Bush's best appointments. He comes across as extremely competent. He inspires confidence. Excellent guy!
I agree. Plus he has been put in charge of the largest outlay of cash in the federal government... Not a dumb man either.

Instead of winnowing out, the GOP field becomes more unsettled. Support for Romney is clearly growing.
