Update from the street:

Some liberals in this city are shocked. Other liberals are trying to convince the shocked liberals that they shouldn't be shocked, and that San Francisco is not a city where anyone is supposed to care about who is having sex with whom. Very few are buying that baloney and the worried look on the naysayer's faces tell it all. I've already heard people talking about how this will make Pelosi look ridiculous across America the week after she said that she was going to bring 'San Francisco Values' to the US Congress. Liberals are already bracing for the hoots of derision from tickled conservatives and claim to be ready with spring-loaded snark of their own in regards to Foley and the behavior of Guiliani when he was mayor of NYC and did something very similar with his aide. Well, OK, but I seem to recall that the Democrats made quite a bit about Foley and Giuliani when it suited their political purposes. Now they seem to be calling for a time-out in the interests of fairness. That only makes me want to stick the knife in and twist. I hope that they get what's coming to them.

This is big news here in the city today, even though I admit that I thought that at first it wouldn't be. Everyone is talking about it and the jokes are already starting to come out.

Gavin Newsome was a well-liked mayor for reasons I'll never understand. I've never heard a liberal put together a coherent point on why Newsom is doing a good job. I sure don't see any changes to the city that he promised. Just a lot more of feeding the bums like pigeons and thinking that they'll go away. Lots of bullcrap about 'Care, not Cash' and 'A helping hand up, not a hand out'. Yeah sure, we still spend the same quarter billion dollars a year on the useless bums just like back when the repellant Willie Brown was HNIC. I maintain that Newsom was elected only because of his enormous family wealth and 'GQ' looks. San Francisco voters are precisely the type to vote someone in on how good their hair is and what sort of designer dresses and purses a candidate's wife was seen with at one of the city's hot spot. They like to think of themselves as the country's most 'aware' voters but I can assure you that living amongst these people that they're largely a bunch of adolescent know-it-alls that don't know a whole lot outside of the trashy 'cause-o'-the-month' political fads they subscribe to then cast by the wayside after it's no longer fashionable. To those of you outside SF who don't know the place, this city is not filled to the brim with anarchist protestor style wackos, it's really filled with metrosexuals driving BMW 7-series and Mercedes SUVs -- even though we do have many of the former kind; they're just not the ones currently in charge. That's why Newsom has a 70% approval rating, pre-scandal. Think of the people here as more along the lines of Sharon Stone rather than Bella Abzug.

Sad thing is that I even have to say that Newsom is pretty much the best person who could be in office right now, and that's only based upon comparing him to the fiendish little fish-faced enemies of liberty that draw nearer to being in that office. Put Kommissar Chris Daly in the mayor's seat, and I'd be begging for the drunk impetuous prettyboy phony Gavin Newsom to return to office.

No doubt about it, though: Newsom is a drunken tramp who almost assuredly cannot pass a urinalysis test. Flat unable to be mayor. Next to incompetent. Probably not a genuinely bright guy. Still the only real option there is for this city.

I hope this scandal kills Pelosi and her SF Values.

I office in the financial district and live in East Bay and I can't disagree with anything you've said!
