So how far back does the Free Republic archive articles and how can I go back and find some of the first threads that started the whole thing off ?
It struck me I've hung out for a while and it was well established when I joined.
Be fun to see what we were focused on day one. For me anyway.

I agree. That's also what I thought the first time I heard Rush. I finally realized that I wasn't alone and now I am home. A lot of us would have to be put away if anything happened to FR.
I had one linked but it won't open anymore.
FreeRepublic is lessor because of his absence...especially when you take into consideration the changed overall tone around here the past year or so.
Mine points to a dead link too.

Oh ok thanks fatima
Me too. But I gotta be careful that my "break" doesn't turn into retirement!
YIKES!
I'd rather have the mail feature "by sender" repaired.
I'd love to dump FR mail and find it time consuming to delete one by one.
(((Hugs)))
Onyx, You Da Man!
LOL
Why thank you, fair maiden!
When I first started posting essays at FR, I neglected to keep a file of them. I was searching for something the other day and realized I had written too many already. Perhaps that's why a major ping I sent out the other day was ignored by most.
I know... end up deleting two screens at a time...lazy bum that I am.
Crap. I can't remember his name. I wish we could go through our old posts by date.
Was it trueblackman?
I really want to delete a lot of mail.
I delete everything I send and try to delete all incoming that I've read and answered on a daily basis, but I am literally YEARS behind in deleting.
Very loud and lear
A banner airplane also flew over NYC...Again, I think money was raised..
This may be the reference .. I remember it .. and I remember seeing pics of the plane. Wish someone had it to post.

Supreme Commanding General of the Free Republic Air Force:
I am unfamiliar with the activites of FR's air wing, sir; would you care to expound on your mission?

The best way to explain the FRAF is to take this little walk down memory lane of Freeperdom. This is a comprehensive, but not totally inclusive, history of the various sorties that the FRAF has flown over the years.
At top of this page, click on "Post"
Click on Activism/Chapters (first choice you have)
At top of page in the "search" area, choose "articles only"
Type: from: "Seeking the Truth"
Just keep scrolling down the list until you encounter something in the title that refers to banner planes or skywriting. That's the FRAF.
FRAF was a Freeper funded effort starting with the SuperBowl of 1999 where I, as the Supreme Commander of the FreeRepublic Air Force, collected funds for two banner planes and one skywriter to fly over the Super Bowl in Miami.
That was the first time that FRAF flew as a coordinated effort involving contributions from many freepers. FRAF has flown dozens of times since then. Sometimes the flights are funded by the Florida Chapter; sometimes by individuals and sometimes by a group of individuals.
Enjoy your research. You will also come across the FRN, the FreeRepublic Navy. Yes, we Freep on the land, in the air and on the seas! We also have an Admiral for the FRN, RuleofLaw1, another Florida Freeper.

Any pictures survive?
Can't imagine what the specifics were that caused him to be locked out.
I am greatly relieved, because the tone of some of the first mentions of him in this thread sounded more dire to me than just being locked-out. I was afraid that he had died, or was terribly sick or injured. I am glad to know that is not the case.
However, while I don't know the specifics, I can easily imagine the general scenario which tripped him up. Despite his intelligence and wit, he had a tendency to over-personalize discussions and arguments, and become obsessed with winning the argument and "beating his opponent" versus determining the facts and truth of the issue. We are all guilty of this from time to time, but it's best to try to keep those urges under control.
I do have a fond remembrance of him, however, during the Hurricane Rita threads in 2005, when people were trying to evacuate Houston. Sink was on those threads graciously offering his own home as shelter to his fellow Freepers. That was a class act. I wish him well, and hope he can return here one day soon.
diamond, I missed your post earlier! I'm going great, how about you?
