Jan 31, 2007 About 98 percent of Harley's nearly 2,800 unionized workers have voted to strike. The contract expires at 12:01 a.m. Friday, and picketing will begin at that time, union representatives said.
Discussions on the proposed labor contract began at 9 a.m. today in the Toyota Arena at the York Expo Center, where the members of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers Local 175 met.
Holigan List PING.
Be careful what you wish for. Socialism in any form is a very bad thing!
If you believe strongly that those of us who did not contribute anything to the formation of this company, you should start one of your own. We can probably find a lot of union members who would be happy to share in your success also.
Semper Fi
An OPld Man
:-D
Today I would agree with that.
Back in 1990, I was able to negotiate a wonderful price on the bike. HD dealers now won't even look at it - too old. They ship folks w/ older HD's to local shops.
Most dealer mechanics are parts swappers - have no idea what's happening in the engine or electrical system. Follow the troubleshooting chart and swap out parts til it works again.
Man, that is tiring. That is also why I do all my own work and try to buy American made aftermarket parts when possible! and I don't own any trinkets, either.
When the Yups are through trailering their HD's all over - I hope to get a great deal on one. HA HA
I like a heavy bike on the road. I don't go fast anymore - so the HD is perfect for me at this time in my life.
Well, I live here and lost my job once. That's what my attorney told me.
And I believe the owners have the right to fire them all. It's the business owners business, not the unions. If the employees don't like it, leave. I'm sure someone will come along willing to do the work without funneling money to Liberal causes through a fat do-nothing union boss..
LOL! Exactly!

I did contribute - I bought and have owned several new HD's through the years.
You statement there makes no sense, sir.
The old right to work for less routine and even a suggestion to open a plant in China usually pops up whenever a union is mentioned here.
There must be something in the water that leads so called conservatives to denigrate the efforts of hourly workers to improve their earnings. At least the Pinkertons haven't yet been suggested but the day is young and the hatred is as limitless as the liberals display.
I agree they do have the right to fire them. But they have the right to strike. Let see who wins. There is PR to consider as well.
rawr.
star.. you know just what i like :P
They give the bikes away free with any $18,000 image purchase.
"I AM NOT A UNION WORKER"
You get brownie points for that.
If I ahd to buy adn donor cycle, I would get a honda. They are of top quality, cheaper, and made in Ohio. They are as American made and HD.
Note my brothers HD's carb was made in Japan.
The problem is those early unions went away more than 50 years ago, to be replaced with the fronts for Democrats and other organized crime we have running most of them now.
Is corporate greed real? Absolutely. However, businesses exist to MAKE A PROFIT, not necessarily as a giveaway program for employees. When a company mortgages its future to keep a union happy, in the end the company is damaged, the union employees that get laid off are damaged, and the locality that suddenly loses a major employer is damaged.
