Jan 31, 2007 — About 98 percent of Harley's nearly 2,800 unionized workers have voted to strike. The contract expires at 12:01 a.m. Friday, and picketing will begin at that time, union representatives said.

Discussions on the proposed labor contract began at 9 a.m. today in the Toyota Arena at the York Expo Center, where the members of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers Local 175 met.

Throw Rudy in, and it would melt FR servers.

I am tired of the UNION bashing on FR.

Sorry, those who create the company gets to make the rules.

Thems the breaks.

Sorry. I clicked reply on your name rather than the poster who made the "Japs Dumping Bikes Claim."

I never intended to imply you look like anything, just that i laugh at the wanna-be badasses, most of whom can't ride worth a damn.

No offense was taken, it was an attempt at humor on my part. I look like your stereotypical biker, and pretty much always have. In my case, it's not feigned and it's not an affection.

My father came back from WWII with a love for motorcycles and Harley-Davidsons in particular. I grew up amidst the biker culture, and I suppose it shows. Oddly enough, my only sibling, a brother 18 years my senior turned out to be a mild-mannered accountant. Go figure.

Hottie would never understand this, but I've reigned the engine in once.

LOL, you are right about Hboy not understanding! LMAO!

Nothing wrong with that. You should like your own ride better. If it were otherwise, it would be money ill spent. I love my bike. It's highly customized and exactly the way I like it. The seat is perfect, the handlebars are just right, the engine is tuned exactly where I like it. It's perfect...for me.

Agree. I used to get a lot of Riceburner garbage from dudes in harley shirts that never even rode a bike, though, and maybe that's what rally irked me. "Queer with the Gear", we called them.

Harley's are overpriced luxuries. I don't have one and don't plan on getting one ever because of Union types picking nits. The shabby clothes, unshaven, baseball hat wearing union worker is a relic. I say take picture, write a paragraph, put it in the history books, and move on.

America knows all to well how to make cars and motorcycles. Time to let some developing third world hell hole improve their economy with those plants. We should be moving into something more challenging and profitable.

Wanna race?

Lets purposely lay down our bikes at 45mph and see who survives.

Lets ride in traffic and see who is more visible to motorists.

I've been to bike week in Daytona and seen many of those "fine ladies". Pretty scary bunch and many have larger balls then I do.

HOTTIEBOY, I'm not knocking you lady BUT unless you are blind you have to admit that there are far more ladies at bike week you'd prefer cover it up a little more then they do. Many real bowsers for every real fine lady in Daytona bike week. I've been going there for years mostly to look at the bikes.

No, I don't. Maybe I shouldn't reply to you on this becasue you seem to have respect for all bikers.
I was talking to a hardcore standard rider about performance. He was taken aback and said his bike was plenty fast. He very proudly told me how he paid $17,000 for the bike and went straight into the engine. Changing bore and stroke, updating with tighter heads and using bigger carbs. He said he had nearly $20k in that bike and it was a real performance machine. He said he could do 11.24 seconds in a quarter mile.
I proceeded to tell him that I paid $8995 and could do 10.45 in a quarter mile. He asked me what I did to the bike and I told him I put gas in it and turned the key. I never got around to telling him that was the slow bike and I just use it for twisties. But lean angle and rake and trail are words he would have never understodd anyway.

If they do they will ruin their reputation. Dedicated Harley owners will pay whatever it costs for a hog. Waiting lines only make them more desirable.

Better yet let's be safe and both ride in a gay pride parade. Wonder which of us will fit right in?

I can agree with that. The substance of the product meens nothing. The could market a chrome plated turd and stamp HD on the side and sell them like hotcakes.

I don't know.

We are talking about bikes and carbs and lean angles and engine displacement.

Why are you talking about riding with me in a gay parade?

Same reasons as I mentioned before.

But, I will contend that most unions in their present form could use some reformulating. As I mentioned before, I think big union leaders are hacks for the libs and often violate the law. My head is actually not in the sand - as someone earlier stated.

I would put my position as more for the worker as opposed to supporting any unions. I also agree that HD makes the majority of their money on the trinkets and do-dads that have absolutely nothing to do with motorcycling.

But, without those motorcycles, HD couldn't sell the other associated crap.

I also believe that striking is not the smart thing to do. It harms both parties.

I have a friend who paid $32,000 for the Harley "Screaming eagle" bike. Thats the one that comes from the factory already pepped up bigger bore and all the hot parts.

$32,000 and then 1500 for new pipes, and a chip that was supposed to make it faster. When he got done with chrome and all he had almost $40,000 dollars in it.

Now I can buy a Caddilac for that kind of money,a damned god one.

The biggest secret in the world isnt the formula for Bush's beans or the coca -cola formula or even the way to make a nuclear bomb.

The biggest secret in the world is what it actually costs to build a harley davidson ,Motorcycle. I figure this $40,000 bike actually cost about $12,000 tops.

I have owned 4 Harleys, loved them all.
Now I ride a Yamaha and am amazed at the difference in the maintenance costs. I just change the oil and the tires the bike has a 5 year unlimited mileage warranty.

I am told that the 500 mile check up on the Harley is $800 dollars. Correct me if I am wrong.
